The spine and the back cover both read
Mekanïk Destruktïw KommandöhThe front reads.M.D.K.And the booklet readsMëkanïk Destruktïw KommandöhNotice the difference between the first and last. The first e in "Mëkanïk " is spelled differently on both. Is there an accent? Last.fm seems to think so, and that's why my 23 listens of it weren't adding to its play count. Does anyone know which is truly the correct spelling? |

Kobaians are not real sticklers for punctuation. Mine is the same as yours. Multiple place where Mekanik has non-accented e's and one on the rear of the sleeve is well as inside the sleeve with accents. Mine also has a accent over the W in Destructiw on the front of the sleeve and rear liner, but not on the rear of the sleeve.
So yes, lots of typos. Or maybe its just some contextual nuance that only true Kobaians can understand.

I think this may have something to do with the multiple versions that exist of the piece. Some sites such as emusic have real problems with the same name occurring in more than one place, especially for the same artist, so the changes in puntuation may be to distinguish between different versions.
Then there's Magma's tangled history of contracts, which led to MDK being retitled Mekanik Zain on Live/Hhai because of a dispute with a former manager (see also the testicles which Pink Floyd's flying pig developed after Waters left), so it could be a copyright issue.
Or possibly the proof reader wasn't that familiar with Kobaian (unlikely I know, but still a possibility).
I suspect that the umlaut serves much the same purpose that it does in Motorhead - not so much an accent as a warning of what the unwary may encounter...

I don't see no umlaut in Motorhead here... ![]() What's interesting though is that, unless I misunderstood, both spellings occur on the same album cover. |

Indeed, Angelo. The same issue (but not the same PAGE). It reads differently inside the booklet than on the cover (which is a single piece of paper, though) and on the back (which is a separate piece of paper

Kobaians don't usually pay much attention to the umlauts; they are more for pronunciation than actual spelling, and everybody knows how to pronounce "mekanik," so nobody really wastes their time worrying about which letters get umlauts.

Saying that Magma is merely "The best thing since I heard Tool" is an insult to Magma.

Their website gives it the extra umlaut, along with one of their concert DVDs

My vinyl says Mekanïk (without umlauted e) all over the place: Front, back, spine, inside. I think Mëkanïk is a typo of sorts, though I'm unsure of the age of my vinyl. It seems to be a pretty early version, but I don't know really.

No Tööl , no Mekanïk!

Ah, great idea for a cover band.

You could do Zeuhl versions of Tool songs. Sort of like prog's answer to Dred Zeppelin.

Since its an invented word with no communal application i reckon one is free to do with it whatever one wants. However Wikipedia puts no mark over the first 'e' so no more need be said.
![]() Magma are a French band so I suppose the dots are an accent trema rather than an umlaut. Given Christian Vander's nationality I've always thought it strange that 'Kobaian' appears so Teutonic.
