Give me one good reason why I should go and see Saga at the Waerdse Temple in Heerhugowaard, NL, on 1st Nov. (Other than, it's right on my doorstep.)

Love classic Rush; rate Klaatu's Hope as a masterpiece; regard Joni Mitchell as a genius without equal, so all in all it's safe to say, I'm not averse to a Canadian ditty. Back in the days of Neo, a friend of mine, who was a Rush fanatic, tried to convince me that Saga were the next big Canuckian thing. I seem to remember thinking, "Tedious Stadium pop band with vague neoprog affectations", but I can't remember much more about it.

Come on Saga lovers. Convince me! (or disuade me from a fate worse than staying at home with a spliff and a cuppa.)

I saw them in London a couple of years back and they were excellent.  Not everyone's cup of tea and their last few albums have been a bit up and down in terms of quality.

Well, fellow Dutchman, here's an excerpt from my review about the Saga DVD entitled Worlds Apart Revisited, you can consider the words as a good reason to visit Saga this year Wink :

DVD-1 contains a complete Swiss gig in 2005, the sound and lightshow are wonderful, the band plays inspired and tight and the crowd is very enthousiastic, what an exciting musical experience to witness the awesome performance by these ‘music veterans’! You can enjoy great renditions form the ‘classic tracks’ like Give ‘Em The Money (fantastic break with a strong guitar-keyboard duel), Ice Nice (captivating atmosphere with sensational duo-synthesizer play and duel), the stage favorite Humble Stance (exciting accellaration and soli on guitar and keyboards) and amazing interplay between guitar and keyboards (3!) in Don’t Be Late, How Long and Careful Where You Step. Thers’s a splendid appearance from the singer/bass player who also play kebyoards (his Minimoog work is great), he acts like the archetypical frontman, what an energetic and enthousiastic man! Conclusion about this ‘reunion concert’: awesome, at least equal to their best work during the Worlds Apart album!

Guys, thanks. The general consensus seems to be "give it a go", so why not? I'll let you know what happens.

Erik, is HHW a bit too far from DH? If you like them that much, why not join me?

Hi Emdiar.
I saw them last Saturday here in Toronto.
It is the last tour with their singer who is retirering after 30 years(Lazy bugger)Cry
It was a good show for me.A bit emtional, since he is leaving and the other guys are trying to find out what to do,.They are doing something but nothing is in the open yet.
I saw them 198o 1981 and a couple of times over the last couple of years and they are a very very solid pomp-prog band if you like.
Some of the members move around and swap instruments.
The guitar player is sensational and is in my top 5.
The singer got an amazing voice.
Please go and enjoy.

I only own what is supposed to be their proggiest release, 'Generation 13'. It's a concept album but I've no idea what that concept is- something akin to '2112' as far as I can tell but sounds more like Savatage circa 'Gutter Ballet' than Rush, IMHO of course. I'm not too blown away by it; it sounds overstuffed to my ears. I rarely make it past the halfway mark before turning it off...

Good idea Emdiar, I am free that day but I don't have a car, perhaps I can stay at the house of a very good friend who also lives in Alkmaar, we keep in touch, I was so impressed (as you could read) by the reunion Saga that I want to witness a gig!

But how I explain to Tony R30 that I am planning to witness a Saga concert and not a Rush gig Embarrassed .......?
