I rarely ignore without listening to something first. Admittedly my "run a million miles inthe opposite direction" list is pretty long, but as far as ignoring something quite inadvertantly...hmmm....have to think about that.
Oh yes. The Mars Volta. I don't mean to ignore them, I just haven't gotten around to finding an album and sitting down with it, giving it some decent attention in order to find ot if this is something I'll dig.

Rush
Italian Prog (should change soon)
Frank Zappa (I have a few albums, but compared to how much is out there, it's not enough)
Anyone who hasn't given The Mars Volta a listen is missing out on something great!

Have you listened to much RIO/Avant? If not, it might not be a bad thing that Henry Cow are on your list . They're a handful to take in.

I don't listen to much RIO/Avant, but I remember being criticized by my STC bandmates for not having heard any. As far as that genre goes, I like Zappa and SGM.

Really? I find that somewhat impressive. I had to listen to a few transitional bands before I really "got" their music.

Well, if you like the more avant-jazz Zappa stuff, you should be good to give the Cow a try.

Interesting!
If I was born at the time of the 1st RIO festival, I suppose it wouldn't be that odd...
But I was born 14 years later! It is a mystery...

I'll sort out that Mars Volta thing as soon as I get the opportunity.
I get easily sidetracked by so much other music that seems to be calling for my attention these days!

Most of Zeuhl, RIO/Avant, and the Italian Prog genres. Not too much interest in those genres at the point. As an aside when I see the name Henry Cow, I think of Harry Carry and his "Holy Cow!!!". Not sure why? Must be a combo of the sports addiction with the prog addiction.
There are still too many bands in the old Art Rock, Neo Prog, and Prog Metal categories that I haven't given a listen to yet. I don't think any of the big ones however. I have heard most of those. However, just about anything on Erik Neuteboom's list would probably qualify as unexplored at this point.

I constantly ignore Dream Theater. What I've read on this website really doesn't encourage me to change that.
