I`m listening to RUNN by Infront off thier myspace right now. It seems to me that it`s these bands from The Russian Federation are the only bands who really understand what progressive rock is these days. There`s so many influences it makes your head spin man. You don`t know what`s going to hit you next. just freakin` cool stuff. Listened to some freaked out tracks from Vespero from RITO earlier reminds me of early Amon Duul II meets Brainticket  meets Tangerine Dream or something freaked out like that. I just put on Silence Breath Echo.

Your words about progressiveness of these bands are very true, Ian. First of all, it happens because most of them have unlimited access to world's latest music, they try not to lael themselves as Prog or Indie or something else, they seek new ways and aren't afraid of experimenting (since there's no "prog market" in CIS, they've no fear of losing their audience ). Second, there are still strong musical and cultural traditions, though nowadays the gap between the interested ones and ignorant ones grows . And third, since post-Soviet artists less influenced by common Prog bands (most of them, at least), they all sound very fresh and unique...so ANY Russian/Post-Soviet Prog band is a worthy thing to check out!!!

A new Ukrainian band lead by Anton Kalugin, KARFAGEN's leader. Now with vocals and more powerful basis, HOGGWASH catches the very core nature of Neo-Prog with their music!

You can download 3-6 min long samples (!) on theirofficial site

Recommended!

This past week I received the first mix on the recordings for the new Fromuz album, Awaluk. 5 tracks, just under 70 minutes. It is excellent, I think even better than Audio Diplomacy. Soon the final mixing will begin, but we don't have a planned release date, yet. My guess would be that it'll be out sometime in the summer of 2008.
