There are some already familiar reviews, but i never heard about any Armenian prog band yet, and Oaksenham seems to be a promising and interesting band.

That's right Norbert, many progrock bands in this Autumn Special are (still) not added on Prog Archives, especially Neverness from Spain, Obscura from Italy, Ra from the UK and Oaksenham from Armenia are worth to discover .... and let's not forget Solaris Fusion from your country Hungary Thumbs%20Up

I have ARTSRUNI, nice mainstream-Prog record listed on PA as Prog-Folk. Yes, it's a FOLKSY music, like MOSTLY AUTUMN for instance, but there are very little NATIVE ARMENIAN influences, almost none . This is not what I expected

Neverness made an amazing album i feel. Especially recommended for fans of Pink Floyd, Porcupine tree (Sky moves sideways and earlier) and Grobschnitt but with a distinct flavour of their own.Essentially spacerock i feel but with more symphonic influences (synth and organ) than aforementioned bands. Terrific album 4.5 stars for me.

Dirk, I didn't get the album yet, but the pieces I heard last weekend are perfectly in line with what you write here.

I just got an  e-mail from my friend Hans, Monday we will meet in Amsterdam and he will borrow me a bunch of new Italian progrock bands Approve .. and I will receive the new Riverside, I am very curious, especially after their strong performance on the Symforce Festival Clap

I just found the Progwalhalla review, here it is:
 

ALSO EDEN – About Time (***)

- This is a UK band with roots in the Nineties but it lasted until 2006 before Also Eden released their debut CD entitled About Time, the title is almost a self-parody! The album contains five compositions, most songs have a running time between 8 and 12 minutes. Listening to Also Eden I am delighted about their pleasant sound and the flowing shifting moods and accellarations: from dreamy with piano and warm vocals or mid-tempo with howling guitar to compelling with sensitive guitar or bombastic eruptions with flashy synthesizer flights. The singer has a strong, quite distinctive voice with a melancholical undertone. As references I would like to mention IQ and Marillion but with a more modern sound. If you are up to neo-prog, this is a band to discover!

You're gonna like the Gli Alluminogeni and especially Luciano BassoApprove
 
Scolopendra (1972?) is loaded with hammond organ and pipe organ, very dark and moody and Voci (1976?) is vintage keyboard heaven, iirc, there's even a dollop of mellotron here and there.
 
I'm interested to hear about Califfi because many Italian Prog afficianados mention them as one of the better bands of the last 15 years.

Hello Jimmy Row.

I know Gli Alluminogeni with Scolopendra very well (I hoped for bonustracks but the reissue only contains extended liner notes and is released in a 'deluxe papersleeve') and even wrote a review for Prog Archives. But I am very curious to Lucianno Basso, I have read so many positive reviews and not only by Italian progheads Wink I have heard I Califfi in the past, nice one but no more or less in my opinion.

I see, I see...those Japanese mini-Lp's are coming out in bunches these days; I'm happy with the ones I've purchased, but there usually isn't any bonus material although as you said, the liner notes as well as artwork are expanded....still, I don't know if they're worth the $30-$40 US that they often cost.
 
btw, excellent job on your Autumn Special, I've been exploring some of those new bandsApprove I'm very interested in Oaksenham, Ra, and Big Big Train...looking forward to more reviews.

Fantastic work as always. I really enjoyed reading your Autumn Special.
 
I have all the Little Atlas CDs and am eagerly awaiting the new CD "Hollow". I think Little Atlas is one of the best new prog bands in the neo-symphonic prog rock genre. They write very memorable and melodic songs filled with great vintage keyboard playing and good guitar and singing.
 
I have already received and enjoyed Black Bonzo's new CD and it blows me away. They have really matured and improved thier sound. Still heavy and pompous but much more varied and filled with shifting moods and memoralbe sounds. Clap
 
I want to get Omni, Phideaux and Metaphor next!
 
By the way, I have listened to William Gray and while I do like it I am not as impressed as many others. Still, it is a very atmospheric album and it grows with every listen! Embarrassed

Black Bonzo will be one of my next purchases, the samples on Myspace really impressed me, especially one of the long tracks - very powerful sound with of course, our beloved vintage keys.  I can recommend you Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon, it is very epic - a concept album (the title explains it all) with many guest musicians (including a big orchestral sound at times...and Martin Orford from IQ makes an appearance on one of the final tracks).  Some people may not like all of the vocals because Phideaux's own voice isn't one of the strongest, but charming nonetheless. Overall, a good album...not one of the very best this year, but very good, I'd give it around 3.5 stars, maybe more.

Thanks for your enthousiastic post, Dalt99, I am curious to the development of Little Atlas, indeed, what a band Clap William Gray is a band that you need to listen a lot of times, so dynamic and varied, from Heavy Prog to folk, never a dull moment!

Jimmy Row, Black Bonzo is almost worth to buy because of the mindblowing fold out cover!

You better buy Little Atlas their latest effort, Prog-jester, one of the most inventive progrock albums I have heard in years, highly recommended by this Flying Dutchman Wink
 
Outer Limits their album The Scene Of Pale Blue remains my favorite, those compelling violin-Mellotron waves during the grand finale, goose bumps!
