I heard a ROIO of the Altanta show. It sounded amazing. I really am bummed I didn't catch them this tour. From all I have read, they really seem to be outdoing themselves on tour this time.

Ehm, what is a ROIO ??? Confused

Thanks Melo!!!  It looks like the same playlist that we had in Detroit, except that we did have Distant Early Warning instead of Summertime Blues.  I heard Summertime Blues on the previous tour, and it is a fun song to hear and for them to play, but since Rush has so much of their own material to play it is a shame that they play a cover song.

Of course, I remember when they played Wipeout at one of the shows and that was quite the riot.  It was proceeded by Geddy commenting that "this is for all the critics who complain that all we do is stand in one place and play".  Alex then proceeded to "surf" while playing Wipe Out.

YYZ - I read somewhere a long time ago that YYZ was influenced by the morse code signal sent out at the Toronto airport to incoming airplanes that indicates that they are approaching the Toronto airport.  Fact or Fiction?

Answered my own question on Wikipeida:

YYZ is the IATA airport identification code for Toronto Pearson International Airport, of Rush's native area of Toronto. At the time the song was written, it was common practice (and still is) for air navigation aids to broadcast their 3-letter identifier code in Morse Code using VHF omnidirectional range (VOR). A plane using VOR equipment would then always know its location relative to a the VOR navaid within range. A plane landing at Toronto would, for example, rely on the radio emanation of the letters YYZ (in Morse Code) as a homing beacon to locate and arrive at the Toronto airport. (Source: Wikipedia's article on VOR.) The song's introduction, played in a time signature of 10/8 (with some argument of 5/4), repeatedly renders the letters "Y-Y-Z" in Morse Code using various musical arrangements

Hi Repner.  Welcome to PA.  I hope that you enjoy their concert.  I saw it about a month ago and thought that it was very good.  I have seen them almost 10 times.  I felt that their show was focused towards fans of their newer music with a call out to their frequent attendees by playing 3 or 4 of their more obscure older songs that hadn't been played live too often in the past.  The problem with this setlist is that even though they played for 2 1/2 hours they omitted many of their more familiar and classic songs which they have played quite often over the years.  Hopefully, that doesn't cause too much disappointment since it will be your first Rush concert.

That means you probably saw the Rush/Marillion tour ?
My uncle was telling me how he went to that, but he didn't know Marillion at the time so he was just waiting for Rush to come on instead of relishing in Marillion's music.  He told me he wishes he could go back and appreciate it more.

It is probably too early to start this discussion since Snakes and Arrows is still fresh off the presses and is still being presented live for the first time on a nightly basis via their tour but I can't wait to hear their next release.  I am definitely hoping that there isn't another 5 years before their next new release since they did a fantastic job with Snakes and Arrows and hopefully this is a sign that they've got their creative juices flowing again.  It is just that as always I am already craving new material from the guys.  Have there been any indications from them on what their plans are following their tour?  I imagine that they will probably roll the bones and let fate decide what their next move is.

Well, since this is a thread for all Rush fans, I'll indulge in a spot of self-advertising, and refer you all to my review of the Milan show. They were brilliant in 2004, but last Tuesday they surpassed themselves.

Nice review.  It sounds like they are still giving some awesome performances.  Definitely enjoyed the show when they played here in Michigan back in August.

Look at that.  My most recently played song is your forum name Ghost Rider.

I feel the same way. You guys may not like this, but I'd rather they put out material quicker and tour every two albums. I know this would never happen but I can't get enough new Rush.

Side note: Surfing the Rush websites yesterday, I read somewhere that one of the songs they are soundchecking with...get this...Here Again.  Man would I love to be a fly on the wall for that!  Wink

That would be cool to hear them playing Here Again.  I wonder if they are working on it for their next tour, or if they plan on throwing it in somewhere on this tour.  I know in seeing some of the posts of playlists they have been changing up a song or two here or there to keep it interesting.

Man, this thread is still chuggin' along. Hope you had a great time at the Rush show, Raff. Saw them in August and they just blew the doors off the place. And the best part, the new stuff sounded great and fit perfectly alongside the classics. I loved how they came out after intermission and jammed S&A right down your throat.

I need to find out how to upload the photo I had taken with Alex and Geddy prior to the show. Anyone know how I can do that?

Oh, and by the way, you won't find a nicer person than Alex. Completely genuine and greets you with the biggest smile. As a thank you to Hugh Syme for getting us the backstage passes, I sent him a copy of the new Marillion (loves Afraid Of Sunlight, but has lost touch with them), and the latest Blackfield.
