And the next one:

THE* EVPATORIA REPORT

%20The*%20Evpatoria%20Report%20picture

Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock
Country: Switzerland
Official website: http://www.the-evpatoria-report.net/

Biography taken from their website with the band's permission:

The Evpatoria Report was born in January 2002 and the band consists of two guitars, a bass, drums, a violin and a keyboard. The band offers an instrumental rock combining serenity, power and intensity. In order to enrich some of its compositions, The Evpatoria Report is willing to collaborate with other musicians, as it was the case with Reverse Engineering, the Orchestra of Ribaupierre or the Union Choral society of Vevey.

The band’s activity can be summarized through the release of its first EP (2003), followed by its first album "Golevka" (2005) as well as through life performances, in particular with Mono (2004), Calexico (2004) and Red Sparowes (2006). The Evpatoria Report currently works on a new album and maintains a keen interest for all sort of project, notably that of a soundtrack.

Recommended for fans of: Epic post-rock like GY!BE, Yndi Halda, Sweek, The Pirate Ship Quintet.

^^^  I haven't heard that album from them. I have Mi Media Naranja and Fixed::Context. I've read somewhere that their early work are more drone than their later ambient post-rock material.

^^^^ I would say maybe somewhere in between spacekraut (Tangerine Dream/Dom (without the folk element)) and Joy Division (without the punk element). This is a classic of postrock imo, and more challenging than their later, more mellow albums, though I enjoy them a lot too. You should definitely give it a listen. Try for instance the songs "Accellerating on a smoother road", "Splash down", "Sliding glass" and "Everlast". Smile
I also recommend the second album; "A stable reference".

Cool. I enjoyed their debut, but still haven't checked this one out. How does it compare to their other release?

That's the thing, I don't know their other album. But this one is as ambient as it has a good sense of rock.
There's a review at Sonic Frontiers (where I also reviewed VIrgin Black's and SGM's latest albums):

It sounds pretty similar to the debut, from what I've read on that review. I'll need to listen to them more often. Maybe I'll pop it later this week.

Now it's my turn to show you one of my favourite post-rock bands. They're called Arrive Alive and it's a collaboration between two people who live in different continents and communicate through the internet and make music together this way. Their songs are all posted on their website and can be downloaded for free.

I love all four songs, but I Know What I'm Doing Is Wrong, But I'm Going To Do It Anyway is my favourite. Let me know what you think!

^^^  I just listened to the song you mentioned and it was very good. I haven't heard the others, though, but I'll probably go back and listen to the other songs sooner or later.

Oh! I forgot mention the latest additions in the post-rock genre. Embarrassed

The first one:

TUNA LAGUNA

< ="" ="text/"> < ="" ="text/" ="http://www.biggerboat.com/api/show_ads.js">
Tuna%20Laguna%20picture

Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock
Country: Norway
Official website: http://tunalaguna.com/

Tuna Laguna is a band from Lofoten and Vesterålen, Norway. They all first met at Trondheim and have being doing music ever since. They've been known for their great live shows. Their music is widely influenced by Post-Rock bands like Tortoise and Do Make Say Think, as well as Can and Progressive Rock bands from the 70's. Tuna Laguna's sound is as unique as their line-up which strays away from the standard Post-Rock line-up of two guitars/ bass/ drums adding instruments like banjo, rhodes piano, glockenspiel, analog synths and "babypiano" amongst others. In 2003 they released their debut EP, "It's A Fudge", and in 2007 their first full-length album, "Ripples And Swells".

Tuna Laguna is recommended for Post-Rock fans looking for a more Prog oriented sound or simply fans looking for adventurous bands like The Samuel Jackson Five.

Recommended for fans of: Jaga Jazzist, The Samuel Jackson Five and post-rock with a bit jazzier and slightly proggy attitude. Upbeat.

Samples:
Full EP for free at: http://tunalaguna.com/fudge.html
And two full songs from their latest album:

And the latest one:

SILENCE KIT*

< ="" ="text/"> < ="" ="text/" ="http://www.biggerboat.com/api/show_ads.js">
Silence%20Kit*%20picture

Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock
Country: Russia
Official website: http://www.myspace.com/silencekitmoscow

Positive changes and good vibrations are happening on a Russian underground scene, and one of the sources of them is this unconventional band. Rising from the ashes of DAIRY HIGH, indie/brit-pop band, SILENCE KIT recorded their self-titled debut in 2002 and released it at the end of the year. They were giving it for free on their concerts, and this definitely helped them to become even more popular in underground/indie community. "Pieonear", released in May 2004, had only three long tracks on it (in best GY!BE/EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY/MOGWAI/MONO traditions) and quickly became even more popular than preceding record. Unfortunately, band's cello player Yaroslav Kovalev tragically died on September, 5, 2005, and for some time they've suspended their activity. But after some line-up changes they have returned with a brand new album (released September, 1, 2007), which has mounted them on Russian underground Everest. If Canada has GY!BE and Iceland has SIGUR ROS as Post-Rock symbols, look for SILENCE KIT in Russia. Extremely recommended!

- Igor Sidorenko (Prog-Jester) -

Recommended for fans of:  The heavier Mogwai, Russian Circle, Mono and Post-Rock with very little minimalism, but more dimensional.

There has been some new additions since the last post in here so to keep this thread alive I'll post them here for you guys to know more about them:

C'EST MORTEL

< ="" ="text/"> < ="" ="text/" ="http://www.biggerboat.com/api/show_ads.js">
Cest%20Mortel%20picture

Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post Rock
Country: United States
Official website: http://www.twoshedsmusic.com/cestmortel.html

C'est Mortel is basically a side-project by Tom Naumann and Mason Brown from the Athens, Georgia, band, Jet by Day. The band was formed in 2000 and the idea behind this project was too play something different from what they were previously doing and that's exactly what they achieved with C'est Mortel. Naumann and Brown recruited several musicians from the Athens area like Devin Brown, Brett Griffin, and David Specht to play on this new side-project. The band's music is a combination of the heaviness from Progressive Metal, the delicateness of Post-Rock and the epics from Progressive Rock. C'est Mortel's songwriting is very similar to that of Progressive Rock artists, they mostly (if not only) write epics ranging over the 30-40 minute mark and feature a lot of changes in themes and dynamics. They released their debut in 2002 and it was well received by the media. C'est Mortel is currently inactive since Naumann and Brown are focusing more on their main band, Jet By Day.

C'est Mortel is a tough band to pin down. They mix effortlessly Prog Metal, Post-Rock and Prog Rock without sounding patchy. They're one of the few Post-Rock bands that have admittedly been influenced by Progressive Rock. Highly recommended for Prog Rock fans looking for something new while still staying true to their roots and for fans of Post-Rock looking for a bit more complexity in their music.

Recommended For Fans Of:  ... I can't find another band similar to them. Unique. A blend of  Space Rock, Prog Metal, Post-Rock and Prog.

IMMANU EL

< ="" ="text/"> < ="" ="text/" ="http://www.biggerboat.com/api/show_ads.js">
Immanu%20El%20picture

Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post Rock
Country: Sweden
Official website: http://www.immanu-el.com/

Immanu El is a post-rock band from Sweden that was formed when a couple of high school friends decided to make music in the Summer of 2004. Like many other Swedish Post-Rock bands, Immanu El's music focuses on vocals even more so than bands like Logh, Ef and September Malevolence. Their first release was an CDR EP in 2005 called, "Killerwhale". After doing some live shows and touring with different artists such as Sigur Rós and the previously mentioned Ef they struck a deal with And The Sound records. In August of 2007 they released their full-length debut, "They'll Come, They Come".

Immanu El's music can be seen as a combination of ambient, Indie Pop (mainly because of the vocals) and Post-Rock. The vocals are somewhat similar to Jonsi's from Sigur Rós and are sang in English. The music is very atmospheric and prefers to stay subtle and not loud. Highly recommended for fans of Sigur Rós, Ef, Gregor Samsa and other Post-Rock bands that emphasizes on vocals.

Recommended For Fans Of: Sigur Ros, Gregor Samsa, Ef, September Malevolence, Logh and other Post-Rock with vocals.

I've been listening to some Post Rock recently, especially Godspeed, who I've enjoyed very much, and right now I'm listening to Yndi Halda for the first time, and I'm really liking them.  I'd like to look into this genre more, does anyone have any suggestions? Smile

(I'm mostly looking for instrumental bands, by the way.)
