Sickoakes'  first Epic is free to download at http://www.archive.org/details/pls003

If I'm not mistaken the song is about 15 to 17 minutes long. You can stream it if you don't want to download it.

Tuna Laguna is giving their debut EP, "It's A Fudge" for free. It's about 40 minutes long and it's one of the few post-rock bands who has direct influences from 70's progressive rock.

You can download the entire album here: http://tunalaguna.com/Tuna%20Laguna%20-%20It's%20A%20Fudge.zip
Or you can download it song by song here: http://tunalaguna.com/fudge.html

Also, you can download 2 songs from their latest album, Ripples And Swells in the music section of their website at: http://tunalaguna.com/

That's all for now Smile

Re my post on ELP on 7 Sep 07, WE7 is the legal (UK based) site launched by Peter Gabriel earlier this year. Each song has an advert "grafted" onto the first 10 seconds (although as the site is currently in "Beta" mode, the advert is only a WE7 promo at this stage).

It depends how you define "free" - it certainly costs nothing for the downloader to download, so long as you don't mind a 10 second advert/promo at the start of each track. Certainly this is an unusual concept, and it remains to be seen how successful it is and how long it lasts.

It still seems odd. Why would ELP allow a site to simply give away their music. Do you get the complete song? What format is the download, is it protected in any way? What's in it for ELP?

I completely agree as I was astounded when I saw everything available. Actually, I already own every ELP studio album on CD, so I just downloaded some live tracks from "Welcome Back My Friends to the Show that Never Ends" - yes, you get the entire track and the quality is good (192 kbps). There is no DRM attached to the files. (I entered an earlier post regarding other Prog albums on WE7 - the same applies). Perhaps someone from admin could lodge an enquiry with the WE7 administrators to how this came about (nothing is mentioned on the official ELP site, but I don't know how up to date this is).

Hi Guys
I'll go one better than the We7 Admin team to try and answer your questions, I'm Steve the CEO of We7. People want music they can play on whatever devices they have that is why all our songs are DRM free.

Whats in it for the bands? Well in reality the music is not really free, its just paid for by someone else. In our case you get free music in MP3 format as long as you are happy to listen to the 10s audio ad we add to the front of the music (after 4 weeks you can get rid of the ad, either for no more effort or a survey or something if you are a big music consumer).

So there is a real payment from advertisers which we share with the rights owner, the band or the label depending who chose to upload their music with us.

So this way you get free music, bands get paid, advertisers get listened to.

Hope that helps

Steve

It may be the search if you use ELP then you will not find any but put in Emerson and select Emerson Lake & Palmer ou will see almost 60 albums including some great original bootleg versions. Enjoy, tell your friends about We7

Cheers

Steve

Hi Kaz,
I think I know what is going on but just need to check something, what country are you in? We only have rights to different music for distribution in specific geographic regions andthis is different right down to a track level, so I suspect that this is what is happening but I will check.

When we do deals with record labels we try and get World-wide rights but due to the fact that some trcksor bands have different territory agreements in place that is not always possible so our system manages access to tracks based upon which country you are in and which country the individual track or Album are allowed. I know its a bit wacky but we are working on top of the music industry which is traditionally fragmented and inconsistant.Confused

HI Guys
I have checked and it was right, we have rights for ELP in almost every region of the world except US (sorry hopefully soon) taht is why you cannot see them. What would you prefer seeing tracks that we have but have them greyed out and cannot download them in regions we do not have distribution rights or leave it as we have now which is only show you the tracks that we have rights for in your region?

I'd like to see the former option. That would be neat to see.

Anathema have an upcoming album, to be released later this year entitled Everything. 2 free mp3 downloads are available at their official site http://www.anathema.ws/ ,

One instantly obvious thing about their new music is a sharp lyrical turn from messages of desperation, depression and hopelesness to signals of hope and positivity. Though the music, based on the free mp3s, remain slow, dark and melodic. (think Judgement and  Alternative 4)

A note from their site reads:

- change and growth on a personal level is a very healthy thing..

to move on from the past, to new broader horizons is a beautiful experience.. to find the power of forgiveness.. to open the gateway to love, as i call it.. to love and forgive yourself, and others, in your life and find it is a pathway to inner peace.. to see all of creation manifested in the song of a bird or the sound of the wind.. to recognise your own soul within yourself and see it reflected in all nature and all the people around you, is humbling and empowering in equal measure.. to recognise that you ARE life and that the energy that you came from is everywhere, in everything..  to be able to trust in the process in life and see your future filled with potential.. to give spare change to a man in the street after walking past him every day for 6 months.. or just even to reach out to others instead of judging them.. to recognise that other people are only doing the best with the knowledge and awareness they have.. to experience a change within and to recognise the spark of truth in you..  that you are capable of wonderful, amazing things, or even just beautiful, ordinary things... that is the paradigm shift.

I myself is excited for the release of the album. Everything is sooooooooooo lovely. Worth downloading.
