For gods sake - I've told you (and you're English too, so have no excuse) and you, Man-Erg; tomato ketchup is the only legal side garnish allowed for CHIPS in England; the only exception to this law is if you can produce a Certificate Of HP Sauce Exemption, officially stamped by the Minister For Chips

We English have our standards!

Nowt wrong with Mayo on chips, Jim. Or HP sauce, or even a splash of 'Reggae Reggae sauce' for that matter!

You should try both ketchup and mayo together. Dont smother the chips, just have a generous blob of both, on the side of the plate for dippage..

For my tea I had a fish and chips with mushy peas over the chips. With a bit of mint sauce over the mushy peas. The best thing about was that the mushies were grown and made by me.

Is this a Brit thing or is the delicacy of mushies enjoyed in other countries - or is this another thread?

There's nothing wrong with a meaty f@ggot covered in mushy peas

...that doesn't translate too well overseas, does it?

[edit] the auto-naughty-word-eliminator cut in so I had to spell that traditional north of England delicacy "F@GGOT"
