Plain, preferrably. French fries were invented in Belgium and not France, actually.

Mayonnaise for me. Sometimes I'll settle for vinegar though.

Oooh - listen to Mr Posh!
Right! Chips (not fries) should by law be served with malt vinegar, salt & good ketchup on the side; anything else is a criminal offence, and the offender must be forced to smother his chips in that curious Newfoundland speciality, "dressing" - ie, sawdust ( true!)*
*Peter insisted it was spiced breadcrumbs, but I know what I saw!

Mayo is definitely the best way to eat fries my friend. Not cheap McDonald's fries, real fries !

Mayo for me too........ but for good old fashioned english chips salt and vinegar is the only option!
(washed down with either ginger beer or shandy standing on a harbour wall somewhere watching the waves, the boats and dodging the seagulls!)

Sounds idyllic, P-C
Chips that have been fried in dripping, wrapped in newspaper and eaten with your fingers. Those wooden forks put my teeth on edge.

For gods sake - I've told you (and you're English too, so have no excuse) and you, Man-Erg; tomato ketchup is the only legal side garnish allowed for CHIPS in England; the only exception to this law is if you can produce a Certificate Of HP Sauce Exemption, officially stamped by the Minister For Chips
We English have our standards!
