Pete Docherty!

How the hell has he avoided prison - this is a guy who is constantly being arrested on charges of class A drug possession (most recently yesterday), yet he only gets warned that if this continues, he may face prison, yet a friend of mine was arrested for possession, 1st offence & spent 4 months inside!

Why is Pete Docherty not in ing prison?

I don't particularly have a problem with Pete Doherty. As a fan of Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave and Shane MacGowan I can hardly hold his lifestyle against him. Having said that, I don't understand why he's rated so highly, either as a performer or a songwriter (the guy's not totally talentless, but there's nothing I can see to elevate him above plenty of other indie scene hopefuls of recent years) - at least the wasters I mentioned had made some decent music while they were self destructing.

What I have a problem with is the press coverage. Every time Pete Doherty ends up on the front pages (and he's on the front page of the Evening Standard today) it sends out a clear message: "completely Censored yourself up on class A drugs and you too could be a critically acclaimed rock star with a supermodel girlfriend." Not, perhaps, the greatest deterrent of recent years...
'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

We have these wonderful little devices at markets, hardware stores, and pretty much most major retailers that allow you to swipe a card, key in a few numbers and within a few moments your transaction is complete.  Why do I always end up behind some Censoredhead who has decided they can't quite endorse that level of convenience and has to write a Censoreding check. Its always somebody who does the ballpoint pen version of 'hunt n peck' to boot.  This is invariably the same person who decides to argue about the paper towels that were supposed to be $.74 but they are charged the Censoreding outrageous sum of $.79.  Jeebus! I'll give you the Censoreding nickel myself if you will just get the Censored out of my way.  What really chaps my hide is that my wife does the same thing. Its Censoreding embarrassing to have a line of andgry shoppers behind me.  Then she'll write me a grocery list and give me the check book and expect me to take part in the same Censoreded up practice that annoys the Censored out of me. Angry

no judge would put him in prison - they'd have a lot of fun with him in there...Evil%20Smile

because they haven't got a prison where the bars are close enough together - it true, he just walks straight through normal ones, a mate down the pub told me. Honest.

No offense to the ladies, but invariably it's a woman whipping out the checkbook at the supermarket.  Absolutely kills me too- I mean, we have debit cards now.  Let's step into the 21st century, shall we?  Thankfully my wife does not participate in such nonsense.  We use a credit card where we get cash back for our grocery store purchases.

Luckily, most retailers in this country no longer accept cheques, but they still insist on accepting coupons cut from old persons' magazines ("Wee & Cabbage Weekly" or some such...), so whereas we don't get the cheque queue, we do get people waiting until the cashier has rung up & totalled the bill, then producing a wad of coupons, most of which are out of date and/or irrelevant, in order to get 3 pence off a can of cat food... then they have to work out how to use the chip & PIN machine, by which time the brain dead 3 year old drone of a cashier needs his nappy changed.

You've never got an Uzi when you want one, have you?

Believe me Chris, I have no problem with his lifestyle; the problem I have is the sheer injustice when one person (not in the public view) gets to stay at one of the Queen's hotels for a first offence, whereas the worst that PD seems to get for repeat offending is a dodgy picture of himself on the front page of yet another tabloid.

I yelled at a deaf guy the other day because he was being an a-hole. It wasn't very satisfying. Kinda of like giving the finger to Stevie Wonder

Of course, PC, the problem to which I was referring was strictly an American one...something that naturally wouldn't apply to a modern, intelligent, technologically savvy Englishwoman as yourself.  Tongue

Why are nearly all Greco-Roman wrestlers homophobes? I can't think of a more homoerotic activity. I have gay friends, and none of them do anything as outlandish as what I see when someone drags me to one of these matches. Two men in a Spandex one piece try to pin the other on the ground so he can't move or speak. This usually involves grabbing the legs, so the crotches of the two men come rather close to each other's mouths. There's a number to designate that (hint: it comes before 70). Really, spandex just makes the whole thing even more homoerotic, because spandex is really a body condom. I think wrestling must have been invented by sleaze filmmaker John Waters. Yet all the wrestlers I've had the unfortunate obligation to speak to have serious objections to homosexuality. You've got to study to be that stupid.

I just had to go back and read your post NS, no worries, I don't use a cheque book..... my rant was about soemthing else, I was just letting off a little steam in here.......I'm better now!

Although on the subject of cheque books, I know when my father died and my mother took over the household accounts for the first time, she used cheques for practically everything, it meant that she had a good record of her spends and could trace stuff easily and keep the accounting in order easier..... I have managed to get her using a debit card now, but she has a little hard backed note book that she whips out at the check out to write things down...... or she gets into a pickle! (she's an old half blind lady, who for over 40 years had all such things done for her by my Dad....and NO I wouldn't like to get stuck behind her in a queue!)

But thanks for the pointless flattery..... first e-dub and now you...I could get used to this!!!

We aim to please!  Big%20smile

Probably obvious, but the biggest technophobe in my family is grandmom...in her late 80s, and refuses to even use an ATM.  She needs to go into the bank during banking hours and get her money from a person.  Although my mom is running a close second, she has no clue how to use a computer, despite repeated attempts at teaching her.

Why does my teenage son and all his gormless mates walk around town with their ing trousers so low that their crotch is down by the ing ankles. This must be the most ridiculous, idiotic fashion trend in the whole of human history . Bring back the birch

Indeed. I don't know why that connotates "thug." Real thugs run from the police. Mighty hard to do that when your pants are around you're knees.
