The latest edition of jazzwise, published today state they will be interviewing Robert Wyatt on the October 2007 edition to coincide with his new album, suggested to be a three part composition. We are told to expect a variety of musical styles, although many of Wyatt's usual collaborators will be playing, e.g. trombonist Annie Whitehead and Jam-man Paul Weller. |

More details: Title of album: Comicopera, which divided into 3 Acts: Lost In Noise, The Here & Now, and Away With The Fairies , and in part is an observation on human foibles, from love and religion to war. It will be released by the indie label Domino on 7th October. Jazzwise say of the advanced copy they have: It has more a live band feel than previous and is one of Wyatt's very best works. Line-up: Wyatt: voice, cornet, percussion Gilad Atzmon; sax Annie Whitehead: trombone Yaron Stavi: Bass Monica Vasconcelos: Voice Orphy Robinson: vibes Brian Eno: keys Paul Weller : guitar |

Cuckooland is good, but sounds more like Modern Jazz than Prog-jazz to me.
I find it a bit boring, IMO

Cuckooland is one of those albums that grows on you gradually. Having said that, I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Shleep, which IMO is just about on a par with Rock Bottom. A new Wyatt album is always worth waiting for, and even the lesser ones are still flawed gems, so I'll be giving Comic Opera my undivided attention when it comes out.

I'm pleased to say that fans of Canterbury's jazzier elements are getting it good at the moment. No only a pending Robert Wyatt album, but also albums by Soft Machine Legacy, Hugh Hopper, the late Elton Dean and Phil Miller are, or or about to be, released by Moon June Records.

On October 8, 2007 Robert Wyatt is to release his new album and first for Domino Records.
Called 'Comicopera', the 16 track album will be available on both CD and double vinyl formats. It was produced by Robert himself, and recorded at his home in Louth as well as Phil Manzanera's Gallery Studio. 'Comicopera' is divided into three Acts - 'Lost in Noise', 'The Here and The Now', and 'Away with the Fairies', and is initially more diverse and live sounding than it's predecessor 'Cuckooland'. Featuring a cast of musicians including Brian Eno, Paul Weller and Phil Manzanera, Robert says he was keen for the album to capture the sound of a group of musicians playing in the room together, but more importantly to have friends playing together. "Music isn't just an abstract pleasure, it is a company, when you play a record. Why I like Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus, the Big Bands - is because every character in the band is identifiable as that person - there's this group of humans in a room" he says. It is this that gives 'Comicopera' a sense of spontaneity, despite it's deliberate pacing and construction as something of a three Act 'Opera' ![]() Tracklisting: Act One: Lost In Noise 1 Stay Tunes 2 Just As You Are 3 You You 4 A.W.O.L. 5 Anachronist Act Two: The Here and The Now 6 A Beautiful Peace 7 Be Serious 8 On The Town Square 9 Mob Rule 10 A Beautiful War 11 Out of The Blue Act Three: Away With The Fairies 12 Del Mondo 13 Cancion de Julieta 14 Pastafari 15 Fragment 16 Hasta Siempre Edited by Agemo - September 11 2007 at 15:27 |

Initial response to THE UNFAIRGROUND in the British media has been very positive, even though the album is only 34 minutes long. I'm ordering my copy straightaway.

34 minutes long?
And is that the Del Mondo that's on Phil Manzanera's Diamond Head? I'm still looking forward to it though. |
