There are two albums of Franco Battiato's "Fetus" in his PA discography page, just because the second one ("Foetus") is the English-lyrics version (and has another kind of cover).
Why? |

Dunno... I can delete the english version entry if you like but first I think we should talk to Andrew who added it. The same situation is for polish band ABRAXAS where their album Prophecies is an english version of the album Centurie. I'm not sure what's the site's policy in such cases... I'll ask my team mates.
BTW, as it comes to releases info of Battiato's albums the italian version has only mentioned 1998 CD release whereas the english one only 1972 LP release. Do you know something about it? Edited by Tuzvihar - August 18 2007 at 03:12 |

Well, on my account the two Fetus have the same music, no alternative versions or extra details, expect for the vocals and the cover, which is simply arranged as an "special different edition". All this should count for the policy that editions of an album stick together, not have each a separate album entry.
You can talk to Andrew, if you want, but don't think he's essential to explain the valid choice of this almost dopple-ganger admission, the English album was added purely out of a different version and a different lyric format.
I think it's a thing of insufficient release info being added. For sure, you can come up with the label and the info for the 1971 LP. |

yes. But "Foetus" isn't the English version of "Fetus". Or better... Is the English version. But Demo version of the English version because when battiato is run up of the awful result decided to leave the project.
This album, apparently, is a "Pirate Album" because don't have the license of Franco Battiato. Edited by Mandrakeroot - August 19 2007 at 10:36 |

Well... If we should follow the politics of PA... Yes. If we should follow the politics of the fans... No. Sincerely, I repeat", "Foetus" is a "Pirate album". And I believe that this category of album is able to be synonymous of "Bootleg album". |

Unofficial bootlegs have no place here. I'm going to follow PA's policy and remove it from the database. Edited by Tuzvihar - August 19 2007 at 11:07 |

The album is commonly listed in the discography of Franco Battiato and it's listed on his official website...

Yes. But Battiato (I believe) accepted that the album is in the shops. Even if it didn't be from him dismissed.
But see this case:
This is strange case because don't exist a CD or DVD of this Opera but is in Classic discography page!!! Edited by Mandrakeroot - August 19 2007 at 11:49 |

okay, summing up
The policy of PA doesn't have reasons to keep both versions, even with the difference in language. The "English" Foetus seems a production from the original Fetus on which Battiato didn't work. The "English" Foetus is an unofficial bootleg, which, later upon appearance, Battiato accepted. All three are plausible for the second Foetus to be deleted. |

The problem is that Fetus – Foetus is not a single case... Just a few examples: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=2302 http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=12203 http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=1799 http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=11442 http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=922 http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=923 http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=1181 http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=1182 So, what’s the policy of PA? |

unless they plan on deleting English version of Italian albums.... they leave the Battiato album. Note Foetus was released by Battiato's label.... it is an official release. do not delete it..... |

To offer an opinion: I think a reviewer covering both language versions could quite conceivably come to a different review conclusion based on the language of the lyrics. The "foreign" language lyrics (the English lyrics often being the foreign language in these cases) can potentially diminish or perhaps enhance the experience for a given listener. I believe that if both versions are sanctioned releases then there is sufficient difference to warrant the inclusion of both so that the review of one language version will not impact on the other.
