Nil Recurring EP

08-06-2007

Porcupine Tree release a new EP in September called "Nil Recurring". It will feature 4 tracks (just under 30 minutes of music) that were written during the Fear of a Blank Planet sessions, including the title track featuring Robert Fripp on guitar, and "Cheating the Polygraph", which was premiered on the 2006 tour, but subsequently left off the Fear of a Blank Planet album. More news on availability of the EP soon.

I thought he would come out with a Special Edition of FOABP, but I guess he had this in mind instead. Should be interesting

Just under 30 minutes of music?! Sweet, now I can add that to the Fear of a Blank Planet album and make it one disc! Perfect!

Hopefully I can buy the actual disc itself, unless they decide to do the Store-download route. Either way, this WILL be mine!

There's a copy of Cheating the Polygraph floating around on bootleg's of the introducing FOABP tour...I always liked that song...felt it would've fit in quite nicely after Anesthetize.

I knew it would be just a matter of time before we got new music from the "Fear" recording sessions. I own several underground recordings from the 2006 tour that includes the track "Cheating The Polygraph." I actually thought that this was "Nil Recurring" since it sounds very Frippy or Crimson like. I too, like others here, am excited that this will be an extension and completion to FOABP. As much as I love this album, and I do think it's brilliant, I have always thought that it could have been longer. I guess this will fill in that absence. I'm really looking forward to this! This is very ironic as just this morning I was listening to FOABP on the way to work and thought to myself that the only reason I didn't like FOABP as much as Deadwing & In Absentia was because it was too short....

tonefloat has a name for high quality vinyl releases, with much heralded vinyl releases of steven wilson's unreleased electronic music, a series of no-man records, the epic bass communion album ghosts on magnetic tape, and most recently, a audiophile 12inch release by former pink floyd bass player roger waters. porcupine tree will now be releasing the vinyl edition of fear of a blank planet on tonefloat. the 180 grams double vinyl edition will include the album as well the nil recurring ep, and will be packed in a state of the art heavy gatefold picture sleeve with innerbags, designed by carl glover. a special limited edition of only 1,000 copies worldwide will be pressed on blue/black marbled 180 grams double vinyl, and will be housed in numbered picture slipcase, that also contains a glossy full-colour 16-page 12x12inch picture booklet. the limited edition will only be available directly through tonefloat and porcupine tree. both editions of fear of a blank planet will be released on 3 october, to coincide with porcupine tree's autumn tour, and are available to pre-order now from our store. copies will also be available for pre-orders from the pt store later on.

Sweet! An "official" tracklisting that includes the new tracks! Now when I reburn the EP with the CD, I don't have to make a new tracklisting myself - I can just use this one! And going by these track times, the album as a whole will be 79:42 long! I don't know why they didnt release a longer album for this one, especially since they had two of those four songs already done... maybe they wanted to record the other two before releasing "Nil Recurring" and "Cheating The Polygraph".

Thanks for that post, Tony! Interesting that the last two tracks were just recently recorded, and not during the rest of the sessions with the other 8 songs. At least they're all pretty lenghty songs! I can't wait for this EP even MORE now!

I've already placed a preorder for the FOABP Limited Edition, although I'm likely to also buy Nil Recurring in addition to this to ensure the record stays in good condition.
