hmmm.... a big fan of Rush. Good for you... Rush are Gods you know. Forget those who recommended Red... it's a good album...but you need to hear the first, In the Court of Crimson King, where the whole damn thing really started, and start from there. As a Rush fan... you ought to get a kick out of Moonchild. Something right up your alley ![]() Edited by micky - July 30 2007 at 18:42 |

I feel that ITCOTCK is too much of a shock for any Rush fanatic (as it was for me - I didn't touch it for months after hearing it for the first time). Red is more accessible and then after Red can you handle the debut. |

Yes I specifically put those in for you Micky ![]() What was so shocking about it??? It's almost silent for 30 seconds and then you get hit by the opening riff of Schizoid Man. If you're not prepared for it then you get freaked out. Well I did anyways. |

ah, here is what I dislike so much about our healthy progressive opinion why is Moonchild loathed for its beautiful sound improvisation? I based my first impression of King Crimson on that. I was reluctant to listen to them, finally my dad convinced, I listened to half the album alone until he joined me in the room, Moonchild was playing, and he remarked: "what do you hear in this? isn't it just unusual what they played, so minimal and of pure improvisation". Therefore, I can't believe how stereotypical the impression of "ITCOTCK is an absolute masterpiece.....but Moonchild is its only flaw" is among fans. I don't call ITCOTCK a masterpiece, because I have myself some small points for it. But they're certainly not for Moonchild, that piece is fantastic. ![]() |

Agree completly, moonchild is fantastic and i never hade any problem with it i like it yust as much as the rest of the album. I was suprised when i came to this site and saw the dislike of it by progfans, it seem to be the same with the brilliant providence on red wich i also love, try to lisen to it insead of yust hiting skip button and hopefully you will hear its beauty.

ditto, Moonchild is a good track, nothing goes wrong for me with it, and now I'm going to hear this great King Crimson album. But in a thread like this we should be trying to talk about new art rock groups and trying to call attention to those bands, not the Gods Of Prog, as everyone practically knows them.

No one is saying Moonchild is the only "intricate" improvisation of that period. But being included such an art moment in such a popular and prominent album should mean a lot of influence and shine for it.
For me the moment is great. They do a bit of soft rock jam, with moods and vicious strings, after which they simply fall into a meditation. Slumber colors, still points of reflection, abstract music.
mmm!!!

Sorry to disrupt your Moonchild debate, just wanted to post about NAIKAKU.
Their album Shell is a fantastic instrumental (crunchy) rock performance, with flute as well!
Naikaku is one of those bands that keeps me in such thirst for more after I'm done listeing to them, and is one of those bands that keeps me enthusiastic about new music coming out, that is just excellent even though it is relatively far away from the attention of the masses.
Some samples can be listened to here:

I join, generally, the voice that says Naikaku is a great new band, the veracious touch of their music combines really interesting nuances and moves.
