It gets on my nerves that the only way around this annoyance is to switch browsers, which I really don't want to do.

These are really starting to get on my nerves, I think there are 4 or 5 ads about iPods, iPhones, or laptops now, and it seems like they've increased in frequency, at least at certain times of day.  To me it seems like they pick up at night, but then again I've been seeing a lot of them this afternoon....

There's been a couple of adverts that "take over" the page, minimising the window and popping up an alert-box. If these are real Ads then they are very annoying - if they are trojan's then they need to be fixed.

What?

I do hate that advertisement, maybe I should get this adblocker thing of which you speak.

Firefox  and adblock have been working perfectly for me(infinitely better than IE), I've never even seen any of the ads discussed around here...

Actually, I think Opera blocks everything... maybe that's why I don't have a clue about the subject of this thread. Opera is great...

Yeah, that ad is evil. I haven't gotten adblock yet, but I intend to now. Thanks for the tip. Also, I second the motion to have more banner ads so we can get rid of those infernal lies about free iPhones. Does anyone fall for that stuff?

¿Why is everybody listening to something I don't? ¿The Ads are against me?...

I have found great comfort in the fact that so many people hate this as much as I do. I feel that I have made an electronic bond in our group wrath.

I've been blissfully unaware of the offending audio ads. Out of pure curiosity I've turned my pop-up blocker off and still can't hear anything. I can't imagine it's in an advertisers interest to piss its potential customers off with such intrusive advertising, but hey, what do I know? If it didn't work they wouldn't pay through the nose for it would they?
One thing I must say, Easy Living, the ads may be "a necessary evil" but if I did hear them and couldn't block them I'd find another Prog forum PDQ. I think we all know that subscriptions would be a completely unworkable idea.

I don't usually have a problem with noisy ads as I keep my volume muted.

I have no problems with the ads, but most of us are probably enjoying music when we are exploring this site and after all that's what this site is all about.  Noise ads should be strictly off limits.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

As well as AdBlock, I also find the NoScript add-on useful.  There's a lot of stuff on this site that is not only irritating, but slows down performance and presents a security risk.  The last time I checked this site with IE, I couldn't believe how bad it looked.  After closing it down, Norton removed quite a bit of stuff too.  Malware can be a real problem here.  Lots of scripts, tracking cookies...

Only problem with using such programs is that this site depends on ads, so by choosing to blocking them you are not showing your support for the site when it comes to cost.  However, I personally would not use this site without AdBlock or some such program -- when i was first using this site not long after it got going, I had more aggressive ad-blocking software that automatically blocked out too much stuff -- including the mp3s (which were not streaming at that time),

In using AdBlock, you should export some blocking filter lists, and you can manually right click on the ads to remove them.  Actually, you can list all blockable elements easily.  By shortening an ad/banner address, and using an asterix you can easily block out more... e.g. say a script like http://ads.adserver.funkymonkey.js by changing it to http://ads.adserver*

That googlesyndication one is best done away with.
