I have to say as somebody who has been into jazz rock since 1968/9, I do find it surprising that you younger guys seem to have only  mainstream 70's jazz rock albums in your collection, and very little beyond the 80's. The genre didn't stopped in around 1983, it has distinctly moved on and innovation is very much to be heard in 2007 bands and their album releases.  If nothing else check out the bands that developed out the 70's big name bands. BTW my surprise is tempered by appreciating that jazz rock fusion has been ghettoised/forced underground and released by  small indie labels (if at all), and therefore lacking publicity and/or radio play, and no display in record stores. However, there are plenty of websites providing excellent info (e.g. Fusenet) as well as threads here at PA.

hey fellas, check the Russian KOSTAREV BAND out. They play symphonic fusion, and if you'll search the "Suggest new bands" lounge, you'll find legal links on their albums

return to forever is absolutely stunning. So is mahavishnu orchestra. After hearing al di meola on romantic warrior, my guitar playing tendencies have become jazzier and jazzier...faster and faster...better and better. Listening to jazzrock fusion will work wonders for any musician! It opens you up to new sounds and ideas.
for those about to prog, we salute you.

Iève been listening to a lot of my old fusion lately and happened on a little known album I've had since the late seventies by Reggie Lucas who is also known as a producer. He produced Madonna's debutDead.

Anyway the name of the album is Survival Themes and features some good fision solo guitar freakouts as well as some more laid back grooving jazz rock. If I remember correctly I picked up the album because he also had played on some Miles Davis albums in the seventies but I can't seem to find them. I might be wrong. Anyone?

I tried Santana- Abraxas and really enjoyed it. Is that considered Jazz/Rock?
1 Chronicles 13:7-9

Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets.
