Opposite of "Thick As A Brick" and "Tales From Topographic Oceans" comes Aphrodite's Child's "666" and the who's "Tommy"...albums consisting of many shorter, sometimes experimental songs.....

has anybody heard of anything similar in style to "666" or say, "Another Green World"? I love the shortness of the tracks, their diversity, and ultimately, their greatness.....

i tried Eno's "Music For Films" series...but was disapointed and own most early stuff, Ambient series, and Apollo

does he have anything else worthwhile, or anything similar in style to The Big Ship or Spider And I?

Thanks a lot for any recommendations and responses...greatly appreciated

Magnetophone could sound friendly to those who feel close to mr. Eno's music. There must be another way to say this...

Hmm.
There's a lot I could say because I LOVE 'Tommy' and '666' but I must warn you that not all I'll reccommend here is prog:
1) Curved Air 'Second Album' =Clap
Female vocalist and great violinist and excellent piano ('nuff said for guitars and drumming) but fairly good catchy and short tracks, but at the same token, it can be a *little* too poppy for your taste. However, 'Young mother' and the last track...that i can't remember off the top of my head...are gorgeous. Musicianship AND singing-wise.

2) Jethro Tull 'Stand Up'= Approve
You probably already know about this. But the tracks are short and it is GOOD. Pardon my sudden lack of eloquence in describing it. It's atmosphere is darker than 'Songs of the Wood' and lighter than 'Aqualung'...which is my favourite J.T album but the tracks are too drawn out for this topic.

3) Porcupine Tree 'in absentia'= Tongue Brilliant album. Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant and 'Gravity Eyelids' is the song of my life.
50 tonne angel falls to the earth...

Do you mean, like, a bunch of short songs, or a bunch of short songs that flow as one?

yeah sorry...i was too lazy to go in depth in explaining what i meant......
i'm not really looking for something like Abbey Road's final medley but more along the lines of Eno's "Music For Films" or "Another Green World"...in short, a bunch of half-song ditties (under 4 minutes) that may be diverse or experimental, may be instrumental or lyrical...that would make up an album

my best example is probably 666.....the songs are so experimental that if they were typical song length (4 minutes)..they wouldnt be that good...but since their only 1-2 minutes, theyre interesting

i apologize for the vagueness...and i probably have only further confused you.....but i love 666 and Another Green World

perhaps a perfect example would be We're Only In It For the Money or Absolutely Free (though they are extended suites)....

i just want similar examples that are good....thanks for pointing this out...it needed to be explained more in-depthly

i love how "Another Green World" flows perfectly from a guitar-riff instrumental to gentle piano to floating/flowing synthesizer to cute little pop songs back to beat-based songs

diversity-i want 75 million different music styles...in 40 minutes

Brian Eno + David Byrne: My Life in the Bush of Ghosts

You'll never hear anything like it again. Kind of like Talking Heads (go figure) but even weirder!

Try Robert Wyatt's gorgeous' SHLEEP, on which Eno himself appears. A delightfully dreamy album.

Another fascinating collaboration is WRONG WAY UP, by Eno and John Cale.

^agree!

Also, if you like metal and avant-garde music, I'd recommend Fantômas first album. Really short and hugely experimental tracks, but it's awesome overallCool

Also, "Ur Trollkarlens Hatt" by Bo Hansson.
The tracks are longer, and better, and still holds almost the same variation as "Sagan om Ringen". Thumbs%20Up

on that note if you want to get even wierder than that, understandable, i need to LOL, then check out Melt Banana. Not really prog, but excellent short songs! Your best bet is with Fantomas indeed for the metal Avant Garde short songs.
