At least the Jethro Tull concert isn`t part of the  " Jazz Festival". I wonder what Ian Anderson would have thought of that? Probably the same way he felt when JT recieved a heavy metal grammy for Crest of a Knave.

More reasons not to give your money to th Montréal International Jazz Festival Mafia. As I`ve said I used to enjoy this event but now avoid it like the plague. Well, they`re about 3 million bucks in the red, and now they`re trying to recoup the money by ripping off women and children.
From The Montréal Gazette June 18, 2007, Letters to the editor,

I bought three tickets to the jazz festival with my kids, our tradition, as we have done for 25 years.
I asked for the tickets to be mailed, and they said it would cost $6. I thought this was excessive but said okay. They charged me $18- for three tickets in one mailing.

This kind of abuse makes a fun exercise not fun anymore.

Lorraine Semienchuck
Montréal

What did I say earlier, NOT FUN ANYMORE!!!!!
Avoid this event. It  embarasses the hell out of me and others as music loving Montréalers.
Mr. Simard and his henchmen should be ashamed of themselves.

Great show tonight at the Jazz Festival. I saw Billy Cobham, Mike Stern and Alain Caron in a show called The Power of the Trio. Those three played together for the first time in many years.

They showed a great musicianship tonight. They were very happy to play for us some jazz fusion, jazz rock, funky  jazz, and also some more quiet pieces of music who gave us some chills and tenderness too.

Billy Cobham is one of the greatest drummer and he showed us his skill tonight; this guy is amazing. He is quite tall and his arms are so long that everything seems easy and fun for him to play. You should see him with his big smiles while playing. This guy had a lot of fun tonight .

Alain Caron is one of the best bassist of his generation. I liked when he played his funky bass ( something with 8 strings if I rememer correctly).

Mike Stern: a great jazz fusion guitarist. He showed a lot of musicianship with his two buddies.

What was fun, is that we were sitting in the first row. So, we could see all those talented fingers moving and notice all the subtle exchange between the three musicians.

It was a great night for us at the Jazz Festival.Big%20smile

Can you believe they had a band called "God Made Me Funky" on the main stage last night! Believe me I wasn`t there but I saw a clip of it on CFCF 12 a local news station. The master of jazz , Bob Dylan also played at our famous classical music concert hall, Place Des Arts which is another dinosaur of Montréals past.. And the monkeys who organize this spiritual lobotomy are still losing money. They won`t even let people on the site with bottles of water and from what I`m told a beer is going for $4.85 Can and since  our dollar is almost on par with the US dollar ,with the giant tip they expect it`s more than $5 US for a skunky warm Heiniken in a plastic cup.

Before going to the so-called free shows be prepared to be frisked and strip searched at all entrances and remember to bring $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for the $6 beer and $1 that they expect for a tip. They won`t even let you bring bottled water onto the venues so bring $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for water as well unless you want to drink it from the tap in the portable toilets. If you want tickets for any of the over-priced ticketed shows forget it they`re all sold out to the pigeons who have been suckered in in advance.

Don`t get me wrong I`ve been going to the jazz festival since day 1 but have boycotted it for the past 3 years because  it just ain`t fun anymore. When they have to bring in Bob Dylan to open up a jazz festival then you know something`s wrong with this picture.

                                            RIP Montréal International Jazz Festival
Sounds more like a capitalist jazz festival to me, they just want money its all supply and demand buddy.

But that sucks anyway, I would only want to go to a jazz festival with the emfasis on jazz and not on the bottom line, oh well this sort of thing is unavoidable.

Don't listen to what vibration can write; this festival is not only there for the money. It's a good festival. There is nothing like a Quebecor to say bad things about others Quebecors, or about Quebecors success. Vibration is a good exemple of this negative embiance among several quebecors.

Yes, but even the communists are capitalists these days. Maybe we should just call it the Montréal Capitalist Festival and drop the Jazz out of it completely since there`s not much jazz here anyway. The twonks who organize this dog & pony show just like to call it a jazz festival because it sounds cool. In the meantime they`re raping an art form in the name of profit.  To me it`s sort of like urinating on a masterpiece by Monet or Rembrant. This cash cow completely undermines art and anyone who can`t see this who lives in Montréal has a serious case of the Emperor`s New Clothes.

That's bullsh*t Vibration or maybe because you are too poor to attend some payable concerts. Anyway, there are many free concerts on this festival, and also some free guitar clinics etc...

So people, before judging this festival on Vibration comments, why don't you come at this festival, and judge by yourself, instead of believing some negative jerk. ShockedPig

About Mike Stern, Alain Caron, and Billy Cobham show; those three were very inspired, and they were very happy to be there. They received standings ovation and the audience was happy and statisfy.  I think that Vibration's friend did not attend to same concert as we did.

This festival is still very popular, and every year, there is more and more sold out shows, and more people attend the outside and free shows and events. It's very positive.  This year edidion was fantastic according to the press and specialised journalists; it was more Jazz oriented, compares to the previous edition.

Just a bunch of pigeons flocking to another rip-off. I`d really like to see their books. I have a friend who helps out with the financial end for the African Festival and he says that they ( the MIJF ) must cook their books. At least the African Festival takes their losses each year without whimpering to the federal government like the jazz festival does because of their ineptitude. Besides there were a lot of dismal shows this year including both the Marsalis brothers, John Abercrombie and that stupid airhead from the Cranberries who was playing so loud that even some of the organizers were telling people not to go!

Unfortunately the Gazette couldn`t publish my letter because it was too long and I refused to edit it.

Here`s another thing. These moneymongers are not only out to destroy the spirit of jazz but they`re also out to help wipe out the planet while they`re at it! The plastic cups they were selling the overpriced warm beer ( the biggest seller ) in were made of polostyrene #6 which is niether bio-degradable or compostable! Same with the dixie cups they were selling the coffee in. And just to make themselves look good and keep the  environmentalists off their back they had recycling bins for cans they weren`t even selling or allowing into the barricaded festival site!

Just for a joke I went down to Place Des Arts with a friend from out of town where this abomination  was taking place because I had other business downtown. I couldn`t believe they wanted to check my friend`s wife`s purse. Not the kind of  impression to give to the Americans who are starting to stay away from Montréal because of the rising Canadian dollar. At least I had the foresight to warn her in advance that someone with a grade two education would be searching her..

Anyway, the third Montréal International Nazi Jazz Festival that didn`t get a red cent out of me.

For those of you who don`t speak French  " de mauvaise foi " translates to  " You are a very nice man" in English and doesn`t have anything to do with rotten liver.

Not that I am aware of the full festival program, but more jazz oriented ?  Dolores O'Riordan ???

If there is one thing, I think the festival is less jazz-oriented every year.

Bad Faith.

About Jazz oriented; in fact, this year, this fest was more jazz oriented.  You have to know that Dolores gave one show on something like 500 shows .

Actually, this festival would have been  boring if we  can only hear classical jazz.

Like I said before, this festival is not worst than Montreux or anyother jazz festival around the world. Actually, it's the biggest, and every year, many of he great jazz musicians come. So, for them, it must be a good thing to play at this festival.

I knew that. It`s a French expression which just doesn`t translate that well into English and liver is spelled f-o-i-e. It`s just like ostie siboire and other coloqiuolisms.
