check out this Chicago-based drone-rock band called Zelienople. i first heard them on the May 07 Wire sampler and it was really beautiful ghostly stuff in the vein of prime Talk Talk. I also got a cdr of theirs on the Pseudo Arcana label called Ghost Ship/Mary Celeste. Lovely lovely melodic guitar drones n' clatter..........
look out for em.........think they have a myspace page too......... |

Cool, I will check this out. I have enjoyed all the other Pseudo Arcana releases I have heard, so I don't think I will be able to go wrong. Just a little digression one of my favourite albums of '06 was on PA, not sure if you have heard of it Dialing In - Cows In Lye. If you have not I suggest checking it out. She brought out two albums last year the other on psi [BCM label], which I have not been able to track down, most likely sold out.
They do have a myspace btw. Going to listen to some samples after I finish my Feldman cd. |

I hereby appreciate Estradasphere - one of the greatest bands in the world at the moment! Their latest album, Palace of Mirrors, is just mindblowing, and also their greatest achievement thus far.

The guys of the LIDO that I posted earlier and I are planning something where we will be playing some improv of cover songs. We're thinking of doing Storm and NIN's Closer
and also are thinking of Adagio For Strings by Samuel Barber. I'll keep you guys updated on what happens with this project. |

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Ruben I noticed you have been listening to the album Michio Kurihara did with Boris. You wouldn't happen to have his solo album Sunset Notes, I noticed it at my CD's store last time I was there. Just wondering if it is any good, supposedly a cross between post-rock and psych.

Sadly, Adam, I haven't heard it yet, but I know one member who did: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=39691
I'm definitely looking forward to listen to this album. Anything with a Ghost member is bound to catch my attention. |

I had some of that album!!!!!
I deleted it a while back though, I only had bits and pieces and samples, so it was kind of a waste of mp3 space

Heh, very late addition, but I just want to point out that I'm from the Dayton, OH area, and that has to be one of the biggest post-rock scenes in the world. I recommend and encourage you to check out The Juniper Wait, Romance of Young Tigers, When the Tigers Broke Free, and Gathiens. Mouth of the Architect and Kenoma are more like post-metal, with MOTA having far less in common with post-rock than Kenoma.
But yeah, Dayton is loaded with quality post-rock.

this may not be the right place to bring this up but has anyone else noticed that because of the new system about half of the top post-rock albums dont even have reviews? it seems the small genres were hit hardest.

DethMaiden:
Thanks for all of those recommendations! I only know of MOTA from the bands you've mentioned. I only wish Puerto Rico was the same as Dayton... Proletariat: What top list do you mean? The one in the genre page seems fine to me. All the albums have been reviewed, although it is strange to see that Dirty Three album in the tops when it only has one 5-star rating and it isn't even review. Hopefully all of this will get cleared after they polish the rough edges of this new system. |

I just bought tickets to see 65daysofstatic and This Will Destroy You (along with some hardcore bands I don't care about)
anyway I am really excited as this is only my second show of Post rock bands (the first was Isis and Jesu) anyway I just wanted to brag about it.

^^^^ Cool! I only have Insomniac Doze and it's a mighty fine album. Since Bryan dropped out of the post-rock team then maybe I can go forward with the addition, but I'll need at least another album to get more familiar with them.
Good to know. Please report back and tell us all about your experience. Hopefully I'll find a post-rock band in Puerto Rico so I can go and see them or maybe I'll just make one myself! |
