Is that (Phil Manzanera-organised)  Barcelona Guitar Festival (same year as the Barcelona Olympics) on DVD? When BBC2 showed it locally, an hour devoted to each of the 5 days of festival, the metal evening had May Satriani and Vai on stage at the same time - my now distant memory has May being out of his depth that night. However, this may be the time to revise those opinions, having seen Vai do some excellent stunt guitar work in the Eric Clapton Crossroads Festival DVD, putting on an excellent piece of theatre (with the likes of Billy Sheehan) - but for the life of me I can't recall the tune, except a few bars of JS Bach seemed to be slipped in.
The best eclectic music on the Web,8-11pm BST/GMT THURS.

I still think Eddie is up there with Hendrix as one of the most influential guitarists ever.

I chose Yngwie but there were some good choices to make. Nobody had voted for him and he's a great influence.

But if this is a "prog" site and you're choosing "prog" guitarists I think you left off one name who would definitely gain a few votes here.

John Petrucci....

Oh I guess we forgot about him. But on a side note if he's here and I didn't see him on the list please accept my apologies. But if he was left off the list then shame on you.

Either Zappa or Friedman

I the way Zappa plays. He makes up some of the best licks and his sound is just raw. I love it

Then there is friedman who I have loved for a very looong time. Notice my username.

I think I will go with Zappa but I will always have a soft spot for Friedman

Vote with the pack on this one.  Hackett continues to show that he is willing to push the envelope in what he brings to his electric guitar playing.  His guest appearance on the Gordian Knot album shows what he had been experimenting with leading up to some unique guitar sounds on his Tokyo Tapes.  While Fripp is a close second, I believe Hackett is the primo one on this list...

Jan Akkerman from Focus is missed again in another guitar poll!!! What a shame!!!
Out of your list:

1.- Robert Fripp
2.- Joe Satriani
3.- Alan Holdsworth
The best you can is good enough...

At the moment, Holdsworth.

His use of intervals is mindboggling.
