In general I love any kind of maj7 chord, as well as m7 ones, possibly because of the fact that they go together quite well. One of the bands I play in (the more pregressive one) thrives off maj7 chords for a dreamy kind of sound, and I've always thought m7 chords sound very mellow.
I think it depends on your instrument as well, say between guitar and keyboards/piano. For example on the guitar there are these two chords I love, they are the phrasings of maj7 and m7 chords on the guitar, as used in "Deadwing" by Porcupine Tree.
F#m7(sus4)
---0---e (m7)
---0---b (sus4)
---2---a (m3)
---4---f# (root)
---4---c# (5th)
--------x
Fmaj7(b5)
---0---e (maj7)
---0---b (b5)
---2---a (3rd)
---3---f (root)
---3---c (5th)
--------x
But on piano, there is a chord which I am not entirely sure how to name, that my progressive band has come to utilise often. It's something like a maj7 chord in it's sound, but I think the texture is a little more diminished, I actally don't know. The first specimen of the chord that we came up with on the piano, was as follows.
d#
C#
G#
E
Now I can't really decide what that is, and it depends on whether you reverse it to eb, Db, Ab and E because that could also change the way you look at it. But taken in the sharp context, it's almost an Emaj7 just without the 5th and an added 6th.
Or on the other hand it's a C#m/E, another possibility is an Ab(sus4)/E, I'm really not at all too sure. Has anyone got a better name for the chord? I'd be very interested to know.

It seems that every country/region, musical style and instrument utilise their own chord naming. What a mess!
Anyway, in my book, your (indeed) lovely chord is C#m9 - regardless of position of d#.

For me (at least right now) some favorites are:
E7b9 (aka that evil Beatles chord) B9aug11 Bm6add9 / F# (as a passing chord in a song I'm working on) Cb9#11
Yes, I am a keyboard player.

I love maj7s, personally.
I can't really tell keys apart, as I have HORRIBLE pitch.

BTW: What tuning and/or instrument is that? On a 6 string guitar in standard tuning Em79 would look like this: -2- -3- -0- -4- -2- -0-

I love jazzy chords, I'm all about minor 7ths they are so versatile and sound so good if used right, dominant 9ths and minor 6ths too, just any of those jazz chords that you bar off with your 3rd finger on a guitar,

I love the simple yet sadly beautiful Em add9. It's a very common chord for bands like Opeth cause of the 2nd and minor 3rd being rite next to each other. I love how it's used in the song "Windowpane" by Opeth.
for those who wanna see what Im talking about: -0- first string -0- -0- -4- -2- -0- sixth string
quite a lovely chord for those of us who like prog metal and acoustic guitars

I drop the low E down to D and play this:
-0- (first string)
-0-
-8-
-9-
-7-
-7- (sixth string)

I absolutely love using that chord, though I haven't used it in any songs because my friend says it sounds too much like Windowpane to use and I think in Windowpane that chord is up a whole step, not totally sure though
