Muse -Wembley Stadium 16 June

   First time I've been at Wembley for 33 years! (last time was to see the mighty Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Man City in the 1974 League Cup Final) .Its certainly changed since last time.800 million buys you a massive colosseum that boggles the first time you see it.Definetly the WOW factor in abundance..and so what better band to fill it then the best up and coming stadium rock band on the planet. 

I arrived at about 6.00 expecting about an hour wait for our heroes. Instead I had to put up with some dreadfull rubbish called 'The Streets' before around 9.00 with the light fading the lads strode up to the stage to appreciation from the 60-70 thousand fans.As always I'm totally unable to remember the setlist but I liked the general mix of songs that included more Matt Bellamy on the piano than usual.He can play piano to the standard of a Wakeman or an Emerson beleive me.Impressive. 
Soundwise it sounded muddy at the beginning with the bass drum sounding like a pudding being tapped against a wall and the vocals seemed to low on the mix.Some of the microphones were out so they had some technical difficulties to overcome but they did it in splendid style.Muse are a complete winner in this type of environment.Bellamys vocals are pure emotion and the songs massive.Again they closed with the big crowd pleasers Plug In Baby,Stockholm Syndrome and the final encore Take A Bow.Wonderfull concert.9/10.

	Hi Richard, I went the same night as you and also enjoyed it. I managed to miss ALL the support acts, though I wannted to see Rodrigo y Gabriela, I have one of thier albums which is rather good, Oh well maybe some other time. Anyway back to the my experience of the new Wembley and Muse, first off I was impresed with the stadium itself, well thought out, easy to get into, nice wide concourse, lots of bars and toilets, etc. Lots of staff and not too dificult to leave either though I ended up being "guided" to Wembley Central Station by the helpful "stewards" even though I wanted to go to Wembley Park Station!! I also agree about the sound which seemed a bit dull early in the set, in fact I didn't think it improved until they got to Invincible. Some way into their set. I also noticed some microphone problems for Matt Bellamy especially when he moved from the left of the stage over to the right hand side. The people floating around in the ballons during Unintended was a surprise. This was the setlist btw. 1- Knights of Cydonia 2- Hysteria 3- Supermassive Black Hole 4- Map Of The Problematique 5- City Of Delusion 6- Butterflies and Hurricanes 7- Citizen Erased 8- Hoodoo 9- Feeling Good 10- Sunburn 11- Invincible 12- Starlight 13- Man of Mystery 14- Time is Running out 15- New Born 16- Soldier’s Poem 17- Unintended 18- Blackout 19- Plug in Baby 20- Micro Cuts 21- Stockholm Syndrome 22- Take a Bow Highlights for me was Invincible, Time is Running out, New Born, Plug in Baby, Stockholm Syndrome, Take a Bow.

	Thanks for the setlist.I bashed the review this morning on my work pc (I no longer have a home pc). Glad you reminded me about the people floating underneath the balloons...thought that was amazing! I really hope it was captured on film (will there be a DVD I wonder?) . On retrospect my favourite moment was probably City Of Delusion. What do you think about Take A Bow as a set closer? Very brave in my opinion to do that as its such a dark/dense track ('You will burn for your sins' etc). I would have thought Stockholme Syndrome or Plug In Baby are more natural closers. I do love it though (Very 'prog') I think we got very lucky with the wheather. It was chucking it down when I drove into London mid afternoon but cleared up nicely by the time the second support band were on.Then just as we walked out of the Stadium it started up again. Could they have played with it raining? A bit unlikely. As for Wembley itself my only gripe was when I went to go for a pee there was still the massive long queue to get into the toilets. I thought with so many toilets (world record for a building I think) that this problem was solved. 'prog toilet syndrome' seems to apply even to Wembley it would seem

	Yeah, I think the last time I saw Muse they opened with Take A Bow, which worked better, well for me anyway and closed with Knights Of Cydonia. A complete reverse of this time. As you say either Stockholme Syndrome or Plug In Baby would have been better, or even Bliss which they completely left out.! I suppose if it had rained they could of closed the roof. To be honest though I hope bands don't make a habit of playing the stadium I much prefer smaller venues, it was a good experience but hopefully a one off. II even find places like Wembley Arena and Earls Court too big but I'd prefer bands to there than even larger venues.

	I agree about smaller venues.Some of my most enjoyable music experiences have been at Swindon Art Centre seeing the likes of Mountain and Carl Palmer.No hastles with parking either.
