story: when i 1st heard them in the late 70s all my friends were nuts for them, and my reaction was just indifferent. Then I saw all these videos at some club...I was utterly haunted..it reminded me of the way childhood nightmares affect one. I thought, now this is powerful...there must really be something here that I'm missing..I borrowed a bunch of records from a friend, & spent the next week immersing myself.....: I emerged an avid Residents fan.

I've seen his name mentioned a lot when it comes to Wyatt covers, so I think I may like him.  he's worth a try.

I am told "september song" has wyatt on it! also, that there are a few of his titles up at mutant

Geck0, a while ago I saw Keith Tippett on your recently played tracks, so I must say that Friday the 13th is great. I have only heard it once, but it was very good. I really have to listen to it again.
 
I hear Not Available is good. I'm about to download it on eMusic, and I'll get back to you after I've heard it.
 
Have you guys seen this thread? It looks very interesting.

Ladies and gentlemen, lend me your ears!

I have just listened to the single most craziest, over the top, extravagant (and any other big adjective you would like to add) song in all of my life! One single song clocking in at around 45 minutes that will leave you saying "What the f*ck!" over and over again for the whole 45 minutes and in the end the only word that will come out of your mouth is "...wow".

Honestly this is definitely not for everyone, but I just had to share this experience with the rest of you guys. As many of you guys know I'm a big fan of all things avant-garde and this one, my friends, takes the cake for the most exaggerated album/ song I've ever listened to. Not even Yowie's Criptooology comes close to this behemoth.

I became intrigued and curious of them after reading the article Assaf posted in the collabs thread along with the rest of the Brutal Prog scene (which I only know Shinning).

So far I'm loving it and I can't get enough of it. Big%20smile

 Pascale Comelade is an interesting French based catalan composer, he started with more experimental tracks (some with Richard Pinhas) that you can find on the compilation 'Back To Schizo' (1975-1983)
 
 
 
He became then more interested in minimal music and started to use toy instruments, with influences by Spanish(catalan music) he  created some imaginary folk music with a false naivité not unlike 'Akzak Maboul'. Orthrelm would be very interesting except for the minimalism. Why must minimalism sneak in an ruin so much? :(

Not Available, what an amazing album. It's weirdly and eerily beautiful, and I don't know why. Does anyone know where I might find the lyrics? There appears to be some sort of narrative, but I can't really follow it.

^^^ I've heard that OV is their first bite at minimalism and in their previous releases it was pretty much the opposite. I haven't listened to any of it since OV is my first experience listening to them.

Ghandi, I have currently only heard the following Keith Tippett (and projects):

The Keith Tippett Group - "you are here... I am there..."
The Keith Tippett Group - "Dedicated to You, But You Weren't Listening"
Centipede - Septober Energy
Keith Tippett - Blueprint
Ovary Lodge - Ovary Lodge (the first of two self titled albums)

The most accessible are the first two and parts of Blueprint.  Ovary Lodge is very quirky and odd and you may hate it, whilst Septober Energy is a very interesting album and lots of it is very listenable, but again, you will either love it, or hate it.

Ah, That was the other Residents title I thought of suggesting...
 
BTW, my sentiments exactly Ghandi...The Residents have a unique way of burrowing deep into one's soul...a soundtrack of being indeed!
 
I'll check my lp, but i don't think there were lyrics released.

James, which album have you been listening to? I only have their first album Learning to talk so far. That whole circle of groups [(Curlew, Henry Cow, Art Bears, News From Babel and The Muffins)], are fantasitic!

Still have not heard The Muffins , feel like educating me

I somehow have the second album (but with extra tracks that are on the two-in-one version, which includes "Learning to Talk".  Not sure why I haven't got "Learning to Talk" though.

I'll see what I can do about The Muffins, you'll have to wait 'til tomorrow though, as I'm about to depart this place and fall into a comatose state.

How can you say The Muffins are fantastic when you've not heard them? LOL

I have the Best Of The Muffins type thing, but the weird thing is, it's in reverse chronological order, so all the juicy avant-prog comes at the beginning, whilst the 16 minute Soft Machine style stuff comes near the end.  As you may know, they became more Avant-Prog, thanks to Fred Frith.
