I am not a drummer, but in my opinion The Police's Walking On The Moon has the coolest drumming ever. Stewart Copeland uses only the bass and snare drums and the hi-hat on the song, but his technical skill, especially playing polyrhythms, creates a really complex drum part that is amazing to listen to in its own right.  The hi-hat work during the fade-out always gives me goosebumps. It seems so simple at first listen, but like an onion the layers start coming off and it turns out to be really exciting drumming! Copeland's playing might be less striking than, say, Neil Peart (who I'm a big fan of, btwBig%20smile) with his huge drum kit, but to me it is no less interesting to listen to. So I guess the hi-hat on Walking On The Moon is my favorite drum sound.

Neil Peart's playing on The Main Monkey Business is fantastic!

And I'll agree with the others who said Bonham's playing on When The Levee Breaks is fantastic.

^ Good call ! That time signature is so unique & one that Palmer came up with. His shining glory is on Toccata & Karn Evil. So inventive and no one could touch him when he was at the top of his game.

I know it's not prog, Cozy Powell drumming on 'Rainbow Rising' was the bench mark for rock/metal drummers in the 80's & 90's.

I would say "Time Heals" from the Peter Hammill's solo album Over. I love this full sound! And the fine playing of course ;)

Really like Bill Bruford snare sound in Yes as well...

I love MIchael Giles's drum production on KC's early records. My favorite drum song is probably Zeppelin's In My Time of Dying, it's great how Bonham recorded his drums. He had the drums at the bottom of a stairwell and hung microphones from various heights to capture the big sound. And a big sound he gets, jesus christ.

The snare and double bass' IQ is very trebely, giving them a very tight sound!

Perfect.  From the tom beat in the beginning to the all-out double bass drum attack in the middle part, to the delicate beat in the finale, you get to hear everything and every part fits the song so well.

Agreed, I think the drums in this song are perfect and nothing less.  They are never once out of place.

The secret behind it was that he took of the snare on the snare drum to create that sound. Don't ask me why.

I hate that snare sound he gets for that song.

BUT...I believe Danny Carey (Tool) turns off his snares for certain songs. At least it sounds like it.
