The whole show is up here, split into 4 tracks :

All these bands are wonderful. Post-rock/metal would have to be my favourite genre after folk/viking metal.

I especially like Ashes Against The Grain. I absolutely love they fused the pelican style post metal with the opeth-esque acoustcs and atmosphere. It was also great they way they managed to create a nice atmosphere, because too often i feel that post-rock bands sound too... artificial and political. Singor ros for example are a little too electronic for me, and GY!BE are too political sounding.
I like the way Agalloch can play post-rock while evoking images of nature rather than war and cities. I don't know maybe i'm a bit picky when it comes to the atmosphere in my music, but i prefer music that allows me to escape the realities of this world and end up in the wilderness somewhere far away. I suppose this is why l like folk metal. I feel that post-rock, being heavy on atmosphere, would be able to do this very well but i just haven't found any bands that can do this other than Agalloch (and maybe Isis( with in the absence of truth) and Pelican, but nowhere near to the same extent).
Does anybody know of any bands that may appeal to me?

Dude... try Rosetta.

Their debut album The Galilean Satellites is a masterpiece.  It comes as two discs.  The first disc is crushing post-metal a la Isis/Neurosis, and done very well.  The second disc is more experimental/dark ambient/noise tracks.  Now it just so happens that the two discs are exactly the same length, and they're made to be played simultaneously!  Each disc can stand well on its own, but together they're absolutely devastating.

check it out.

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

No I haven't, i didn't even realise they had a new album. Is it good then?

A must have if you like Pelican.  Get the latest by Grails - Burning Off Impurities.

I was somewhat disappointed with the new pelican record.  It's good overall, but the songs lack that "epic" quality of their previous releases, and it's not just the reduced length I'm talking about.  It's the overall feel.

However, the new Grails is quite excellent. Clap

Cool. I may check if there's anything in my nearby cd store. the problem in nz is that it's very hard to find decent cds anywhere. Even locally made ones.

Post-rock.  Not metal, no vocals, little electronics.  Their latest is Solace which is now available in the US.  Cale-Drew is pretty good and so is Dominion (an EP).

You being from New Zealand - you need to get into a band called Jakob.  They are from your country and are absolutely fantastic.  Not yet on PA but maybe someday.

Hey melvins.

Great to hear you're so interested in this genre. It's truley a beautiful place to be and world to discover. Take a good look around in this thread for recomendations and new music to listen to and enjoy!

In my opinion, experimental/post-rock is the most interesting sub-genre on this site.

Hey guys, a question.

Im one of these poor unfortunate luddites that is still subsisting on dial-up (financial reasons).  I had previously attempted to download the third compilation (having enjoyed the first two), but due to the 5 hr limit on my connection, I was unable to down load the zipped album.  Is there any way I can download song by song... (couldnt do it on the website) - legally of course. It may take me a few sessions on the net, but I would be able to, at least, get the songs to listen to.

Eagerly awaiting reply...Big%20smile

Enjoy

I really like this jacket, but the sleeves are much too long.

I just listened to Lift Your Skinny Fists whole for the first time in a few months, and I forgot how powerful that album is. Taking the masterpiece in in one sitting just makes it all the more towering.

Mono is superb.

One of my favorite post rock band.

Sadly, I have only listned to a bootleg of theirs on Live Music Archve.

"Yearning" and "Lost Snow" and "Moonlight" are phenomenal tracks.

Mono is the perfect baalnce of Mogwai distortion and EITS melancholy guitar lines.

Yearning is... so incredibly beautiful. Might just be the most beautiful thing I've heard (though if faces tough competition from Mogwai's Helicon (New Version)).

Regarding the line in bold, I agree completely.
