Experimental/Post rock Appreciation Threa

In my opinion, experimental/post-rock is the most interesting sub-genre on this site.

I have been exploring this genre quite a bit over the last few months. I love G!YBE(Raise Your Skinny Fists..), Explosions In The Sky(All Of The Sudden I Miss Everyone), Singor Ros(Agaetis Byrjun), Isis(In The Absence Of Truth, Panopticon), Neurosis(A Sun That Never Sets, Given To The Rising), Ulver(Perdition City), Pelican(The Fire...), Agalloch(i would say it is fair to call them post-metal recently with Ashes Against The Grain), Red Sparowes(Every Red Heart...). All these bands are wonderful. Post-rock/metal would have to be my favourite genre after folk/viking metal.

I especially like Ashes Against The Grain. I absolutely love they fused the pelican style post metal with the opeth-esque acoustcs and atmosphere. It was also great they way they managed to create a nice atmosphere, because too often i feel that post-rock bands sound too... artificial and political. Singor ros for example are a little too electronic for me, and GY!BE are too political sounding.
I like the way Agalloch can play post-rock while evoking images of nature rather than war and cities. I don't know maybe i'm a bit picky when it comes to the atmosphere in my music, but i prefer music that allows me to escape the realities of this world and end up in the wilderness somewhere far away. I suppose this is why l like folk metal. I feel that post-rock, being heavy on atmosphere, would be able to do this very well but i just haven't found any bands that can do this other than Agalloch (and maybe Isis( with in the absence of truth) and Pelican, but nowhere near to the same extent).
Does anybody know of any bands that may appeal to me?

A must have if you like Pelican.  Get the latest by Grails - Burning Off Impurities.

You being from New Zealand - you need to get into a band called Jakob.  They are from your country and are absolutely fantastic.  Not yet on PA but maybe someday.

Post-rock.  Not metal, no vocals, little electronics.  Their latest is Solace which is now available in the US.  Cale-Drew is pretty good and so is Dominion (an EP).

I was somewhat disappointed with the new pelican record.  It's good overall, but the songs lack that "epic" quality of their previous releases, and it's not just the reduced length I'm talking about.  It's the overall feel.  

However, the new Grails is quite excellent.

Dude... try Rosetta.

Their debut album The Galilean Satellites is a masterpiece.  It comes as two discs.  The first disc is crushing post-metal a la Isis/Neurosis, and done very well.  The second disc is more experimental/dark ambient/noise tracks.  Now it just so happens that the two discs are exactly the same length, and they're made to be played simultaneously!  Each disc can stand well on its own, but together they're absolutely devastating.
