Topic: After Death.. Posted: June 11 2007 at 12:58 |
Where do you think we go when we die? Is death the end or the beginning of something else?

Of course I don't know (no one does), and would like it to be otherwise, but I think we simply become lifeless meat.
Thus, death is "the beginning of something else" -- a process of decomposition, and the breaking down of the body to its constituent elements.
Hopefully, we "live on" in fond memory, if nothing else.
Encroaching, inevitable death pushes us to actually do something with our (finite) lives.
(Or it should!)

Oh, I dunno. I think options 1, 3, and 4 are pretty much the same. I think I believe in an afterlife, but I think it's a much more pleasant and forgiving place than the Biblical references, which are likely scare tactics.

It's so amazing that nobody votes for the only real answer: "wouldn't know"... ... i mean, is the only one that can be PROVED....
I hope we reincarnate or join our loved ones... i just can't figure it all ending when we die... But the more I get my logic into the analysis, the more I'm convinced it's like that, so let's not think about what we can't change.... ..... If you believe in heaven or hell, though, you can start sinning less to go to the former or sinning more to go to the latter....

I was having a chat the other day with my mother (who is in her seventies) about where we go when we die, and felt a bit sad when she said she doesn´t really believe we go anywhere.
I just wasn´t expecting that kind of an answer from my mother.
So I thought I would make this poll to see how everyone feels about this.
@ The T, I thought you would have voted "The spirit carries on" from that song by a well known Prog Metal band

In all seriousness I couldn't possibly know. It is only through faith people believe in an afterlife. And even to believe you go nowhere is an act of faith because how can you prove it?
We really don't know...but I would hope it is someplace wonderful.

The spirit world, where we chill out and do whatever for eternity, like playing checkers with giant stars.

I wouldn't know. I firmly believe in ghosts, but they could just be an echo-like phenomenon and not truly sentient.

These lines are from Wilco -- On and On and On:
One day we’ll disappear together in a dream However short or long our lives are going to be I will live in you or you will live in me Until we disappear together in a dream
Please don’t cry we’re designed to die You can’t deny even the gentlest tide On and on and on we’ll be together yeah On and on and on

The worms crawl in and the worms crawl out
The ones that crawl in are lean and thin
The ones that crawl out are fat and stout
Your eyes fall in and your teeth fall out
Your brains come tumbling down your snout
Be merry my friends, be merry

I saw Brian posted on this thread and instantly thought: maybe we'll all be going to some sort of prog-show, hopefully. They say the angels sing in praise of God, don't they? I wonder what time signatures they use...

I am a believer that energy is neither created nor destroyed, it only changes form. I chose "we join the spirit world" and think of the spirit world more as an energy reserve.
I have some belief in reincaration, but like most things, if it can't be proven, the reason usually means that it is fiction to begin with.

Being a Christian, I'm going to have to go with a Biblical heaven and hell
