My vote goes to the Zombies. Totally underrated, although the Stones and the Kinks are close behind.

If the Kinks hadn't had a habit of doing everything they could to screw their success up, I figure they would have gone on to pass the Stones as group # 2 from the UK. I went through their collection last year, & gathered from different sources an anthology that I left no more than 20 % of their studio output off. Their 60s albums, including the early "rockers" are better than the Stones work until Mick & Keith started hitting the bull's eye with Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed et al. And while the middle part of the 70s was a creative wasteland for them, they did start those years with major musical pieces that should have received more attention than just the song "Lola".

My knowledge is limited but out of those listed the Who, but the Kinks had some great songs, never been that impressed by the Stones.

Had to go with the Stones. Brian Jones was awesome, Keith kicks ass, Mick is awesome, Charlie and Bill are a great rhythm section. I love the Who a lot and the Kinks and the Zombies and Yardbirds, etc but the Stones get my vote this time.

"British Invasion" means musical take-over of America. The only band in this poll to do such a thing was the Stones, from what I know.

The Who without a doubt. They opened for Herman's Hermits back in 1967 and my life was never the same after that. My eyes were opened.

I couldn't agree more. Most of the Kinks' best work is largely overlooked. After discovering "Village Green," "Arthur," "Lola vs. the Powerman," "Muswell Hillbillies," and "Misfits," they moved above the Stones and The Who. If you aren't familiar with these albums, you have to check them out (especially "Muswell Hillbillies").

The Who and the Stones seemed to do very well across the pond, there are some great bands on the list but i'm not sure where Herman's Hermits fit into it, they were a favourite girl's group really, they were never held in the same regard as the Small Faces, the Zombies, the Yardbirds and the Kinks. I always liked the Pretty Things i thought they were great , shame they were always considered a poor man's Rolling Stones.

I agree. During the above period, the Stones & the Who were also putting out most of their iconic works. And the Kinks were just as good. I also enjoy the first few Kinks albums and think that they were more consistent than the first few Stones records. Until Mick & Keith started writing their own material, their cover versions of blues and R & B songs were well done, but not exactly earth shaking. And as much as Satisfaction was "the" rock n roll song, You Really Got Me probably gets more airplay on radio, at parties, clubs, concerts, & cover versions, and deservedly so. Punk before its' time !

You never got invaded by the Honeycombes or Freddy and the Dreamers did you? Nah, we kept them for ourselves because they were too good and now you'll never know what you missed. 
Erm, The Kinks - probably the most talented band around at the time - so good that Jimmy Page even tried to take credit for the You Really Got Me riff.
