On 1st June 1967 the "Sgt Pepper" album was released, little did I know when I placed my new copy on the turntable my little world would be transformed!

I'm sorry but this record deserves every bit of praise and overindulgence it gets. Lennon said about the carnival atmosphere of Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite!: "You should be able to smell the peanuts."

The odd track played by the BBC to trail this show, sounds very faithful to the original version - I'm afraid to say; I hope the rest are far more adventurous. However, the trailer also tells you that these 'modern beat combos' used analogue recording 4 track equipment similar to that George Martin employed 40 yearsa go.

I have a Sgt Pepper "tribute" CD given away with Mojo a few months ago. Among the chosen "artistes" Circulus are the only one I've heard of and they're hardly a household name. And it's the most God-awful CD I've ever heard and is frankly a slur on the Sergeant's good name, so let's hope this one is better. |

The Killers? Yuck. Even Ringo's grasp of pitch is better than that dude's.

The range & quality of the artists on the movie soundtrack remake by the Bee Gees was also impressive. The actual result was not. |

Why would you make a tribute to a great album and band an album they wrote and released many years ago covered by sub-par bands? Isn't that more of a slap in the nads?

i watched this last night, and i was impressed at the respect and professionalism that the modern bands approached their particular project, and having only one day in the studio each without the luxury of modern digital multi-tracking recording methods at their disposal they tackled this admirably, though not perfectly - but well done!

Hey give them a chance ... remember the unqualified success that the last remake was supposed to be ... with the Bee Gees, Frampton, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper |
