Just watched the documentary "Phoque , le film " (loosely translated - Seals, the movie, although the french word for seal - phoque is an antonym for a celebrated english cuss word F) .
Its' purpose is to expose the hypocrisy & misinformation of the "animalist" movements that annually swoop down on the ice floes off the Magdalen Islands to protest the seal hunt.
The result being, that canadians are affixed with the label of baby murderers by foreigners who preach hign minded ideals, while hiding any fact that would contravene their own righteous view of what's right.
Indeed, it is strange that slaughterhouses or abbatoirs in Europe or the U.S. are never picketed by these groups. Maybe it just that cows & pigs just aren't as cute as seals. Maybe it's because of the knowledge that most europeens & americans would NOT contribute to such a battle. Maybe it's because those industries would be a financial match for "animalists" groups in debating the subject of the food that reaches our plates.
I reserve further arguments as the debate flows. I do not wish to call any one ignorant or willfully misinformed, but I am tired of the Powerful people lording it over poorer people just because of their ability to do so.
And here we go ....
So what animal is it not acceptable to kill, whether it be for its' fur, for food, or for survival.
P.S. Those who are ideologically ham-strung by reality (from both sides) should refrain from posting as they may find facts hard to deal with.
"Here I am talking to some of the smartest people in the world and I didn't even notice,” Lieutenant Columbo, episode The Bye-Bye Sky-High I.Q. Murder Case.

If an animal is endangered, then it is unacceptable unless the survival of a certain culture of humans depend on it. Humans come before animals. Everything else, IMO, should be fair game.

You made a good point. What's the difference between a seal and a cow? Cuteness. The hypocrisy of the animal right movement....Ermm

Let me take that one step further: what is the differance between a man and a fly?
nothing.

I think that is bad kill animals that are not dangerous,or kill animals for example like fight of cocks,or dogs or bullfighting (corridas de toros),the corridas or bullfighting is too cruel, because the bull suffer a lot... only in  few countries is legal:Spain,France,Portugal,Mexico,Venezuela,Colombia,Peru...perhaps Ecuador.

THE COCK FIGHTING is cruel too, because the fight finish when one cock kill the other

I think it has to do with culture and availability. If a species is abundant and has been eaten for many years, then it becomes the food source. If there is not enough of an animal to sustain a high demand, it is endangered and should not be killed. Of course, there are always animals that are somewhat abundant that just aren't proper food sources because they are either too small or not very nutritious (squirrels, pidgeons, rats, dogs, cats, etc.) Basically, it's not okay to kill an animal for any reason when the species is dwindling down to exinction, despite tradition or culture, or if it's particullary cruel (cockfights, clubbing seals etc.).

I'll kill whatever I feel is right at the time, but of course I'd never kill a rooster.
I am but a servant of the mighty Fripp, the sound of whose loins shall forever be upon the tongues of his followers.
