Yes and "The Smiths"

I'm more fan of morrissey solo, but I can't resist smiths albums like "hatful of hollow" and "Strangeways here we come"
To be honest, when I first heard morrissey i absolutely couldnt stand his voice. My girlfriend at the time was so into them, she would drag me to concerts. But after like 2 or 3 years of listening (without choice) I actually started to like him, and also became a big fan of Johnny Marr (correctly, John Maher

)

I swear no matter how old that man gets, he is always hansom (morrissey)
Eventhough I know the dude is extremely anti-american, and a vegan nut, I can't help but adore the guys music/voice. As a matter of fact, the dude really gets on my nervs, but I STILL listen. This is why I consider him a guilty pleasure.

Guilty pleasures...

...for me its mostly underground hip-hop. I love artists like Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Jurassic 5, DJ Format, DJ Shadow, Greyskul, Eyedea & Abilities, Blueprint, etc...

This always gets sighs and sad head shakes from my prog friends, as they tell me I'm a white man in my 30's...but ya like what ya like.

Oh, and I will admit that I dig the hell out of "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake, that's a great groove.

And I love late 70's early 80's pop rock for nostalgic reasons...stuff like Little River Band, Toto, Boz Scaggs, REO Speedwagon, etc...always gets me singing along, then looking around to make sure no one saw me ;)

EDIT: Oh, and as a reformed Deadhead, I usually make fun of hippies for living in the past...then I lock the door and secretly jam to 30 minutes of Dark Star when no one is looking...

Ya know what's funny, I was hanging out with my ex-girlfriend who I hadn't seen for like 6 months (this was about a year ago)

and she put on some music, at first it was her usaul stuff, Morrisey, Suede, and the like... (and that's all the kind of stuff she used to listen to)
i mean, when me and her were together, we used to make fun of mainstream pop, and hip-hop/rap etc, all the time, saying how much we hated it and such.
So then she puts on Justin Timberlake..... and she was enjoying it... I tell you I had trouble holding back the tears. It was like losing one of my best friends... as if she never existed. It really is heart wrenching to see someone flip to the dark side, cause thats exactly what she did.

You shouldn't ever feel guilty of liking DT. My god, what has the world come to? A place where elitist pricks proliferate and level-headed individuals with legitimate taste have to hide in the dank crevices of PA? There truly is a place for everyone.

I love to step on elite toes so I can't claim to have a guilty pleasure. DT is my favorite band, followed closely by PoS. Apparently, PA would be my guilty pleasure.

I'm not ashamed of these choices, but as far as bands that are the oppostie of prog:

Punk: Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys (gotta give it up for Jello's satire)

Rap- Public Enemy only (even if you hate rap, this group is killer)

Journey- love his voice

Bon Jovi- the only one I'm actually a little embarassed by (even got tix for their last tour)

The first time I head a Backstreet Boys song, I didn't believe the person who told me it was them... because I liked it.

AAAAAAH!!!! Somebody save me!!! Save my brain from running out my nose and staining my precious precious shirt...

Seriously, I really, really like that song 'Larger than Life'. I never bought the album, because I fear for my sanity, but every time I hear it I love it.

I also get a huge kick out of Weird Al. Love his stuff... not for the music itself, of course, so I'm not sure I'd call it a 'guilty pleasure' thing.

Ah, yes, there's one more...

Avril Lavigne.

Please, please do not kill me. She can't write lyrics to save her life, but there's something I find catchy about a lot of her songs. Now if only she could learn to spell...

I don't feel guilty about anything I listen to, but these are probably the most anti-prog.

Dire Straits
Evanescence
Eric Johnson
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Deep Purple
Thin Lizzy

and of course, the most engrossing and hypnotic song of all time

Im not embarrassed about them in the slightest but... to a proghead these might not be very good. Iron maiden and U2. I dont believe anyone can laugh at either of them though because even though they arent accomplished musicians like Rush or something, a band like U2 has a lot of heart. Iron Maiden on the other hand has no heart whatsoever, but I like their music anyway. One thing to note though I like the U2 from Joshua Tree and before. Where The Streets Have No Name, With Or Without You, New Years Day... those songs, none of that 'Vertigo' musical vomit.

my guilty pleasure is all of rock. it's a pretty stupid genre. ;P

but on a forum such as this one my relevant guilty pleasures will be j-pop and cabaret

I think I might be embaressed to say I love Deerhoof... Considered by some to be the worst band o this generation, I find them interesting and charming... IMO their latest album Friend Oppertunity is a true diamond... But I get people who don't like them, they aren't the easiet band to like...

Deerhoof's interesting but ultimately I couldn't get into their sound. Have you heard of Dengue Fever? I like them a lot. I have no "guilty pleasure" bands. If I like what I hear, I like what I hear. That's why I'll listen to Tangerine Dream, Cheap Trick, Epidaurus, Niacin, Djam Karet, Anthrax, Steve Roach, Bootcut, Goblin, Van Halen, etc....sometimes in that order!

Some of his tunes are a little bit cheesy (pre-disco), but I like Giorgio Moroder, and some of his songs are simply brilliant!

Hey, if you like the old Moroder instrumentals, track down a copy of Brian Bennett's Voyage–A Journey Into Discoid Funk (1979) on vinyl, or remastered on CD (as a two-fer with Rock Dreams) ...with Francis Monkman (Curved Air) on synths, it's pretty cool!
