I have never heard anything like it.It was so loud you could feel the ground beneath you vibrating. |
You were there too? It was June 1993 (I think Vicky and I still have our tickets) & he was supported by Pearl Jam , James & 4 Non Blondes (Remember them? No? Nor does anyone else ) - I seem to remember it got very noisy when Pearl Jam joined him onstage for the encore of 'Rockin in the free world'

Well.well.Small world. Then again,it seemed like the whole wide world was there.
It did get very loud.Out of the Blue, into the Black,Cortez the Killer,Cowgirl in the Sand,Down by the River and Like a Hurricane nearly atomized everything within a 2 mile radius.
What was the R&B cover that they did?
I still have the t-shirt.Good quality.Fruit of the Loom.
Teenage Fan Club were also on the bill.
4 Non Bl(a)ondes were Brazilian if I remember correctly and had a minor hit with 'What's Going On?' ?

Well, there are three songs i just love and can listen to an infinite amout of times. Those are "Cowgirl in the sand", "Down by the river" and "Like a hurricane". Three pretty similar songs, with a lot of his "parkinson"-style guitar soloing. Otherwise, i don't really like Neil Young, i guess. I know he does that guitar in many other songs as well (such as "southern man"), but those three are the only ones long enough to be of much interest to me. I've tried to get him many times, though, i've just not... got him.

Not forgetting the growling version of 'Mr Soul' he started the set with

Mmmm - I seem to remember their particular gimmick was their lead vocalist wore a large hat! Large hat does not = talent - can you hear me JayKay?

His best has to be On The Beach, everyone give that one a try. "Ambulance Blues" is one of the greatest songs ever.

I'm a definite fan, although he's been very inconsistent over the years. I particularly like the live albums Live Rust, Unplugged and Weld - he may not be the nimblest fingered axe man in the world, but I'd rather listen to him trading licks with Frank Sampredo than I would to most of today's shredders.

One of the greatest albums ever. Ambulance Blues is one of the best songs ever, except the pissing in the wind part. It could have been a little better without that

Good call - Sleeps With Angels (written in memory of Kurt Cobain, I believe) was a worthy studio follow up to 'Ragged Glory' & contains my wife's favorite NY song, "Safeway Cart"

My favourite Young songs are not the same as other peoples, it seems. I love tracks like Like A Hurricane, Hey Hey My My (Into the Black), My My Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) (obiously), but I also like Cortez the Killer (Zuma is an excellent album), From Hank to Hendrix, Legend in her Time (or whatever it's called), Harvest Moon... plus many more.
There's a whole oeuvre of great Neil Young tracks.

If I were to list all of my favourite Neil Young songs it would probably take up about three pages...maybe five!

I NEVER even liked Neil Young... well there maybe that one song ( I forgot the title, though I believe the word cowgirl is in the title) but other than that, he does nothing for me.
