Vote for whoever you consider better. Your consideration can be a mix of skill, influence, style, or anything you think creates a good guitarist.

My vote goes to Andrew Latimer, although both are undeniably virtuosos. Gilmour was influential in his use of tremolo, but in the end Latimer gets my vote.

Gilmour was influential not just for his use of tremolo, but for his enormous tone and his blues-raised-to-glory phrasing.

Andy is a musical genius!!  Sure, Gilmour is amazing in his own right, but in my opinion Andy was more consistently excellent!

I'd agree Latimer is the superior player, but not the superior artist.

Gilmour was more innovative (created many commonly used guitar effects) and had his moments of brilliance on the guitar, but overall, Latimer (as the best Symphonic guitarist - yes even better than the precious Hackett) has better soloing chops and has a better ear for melodic lines.

Gilmour is a marginally better singer though - Vote to Latimer

I agree with the general consensus; Gilmour was a better stage act, a better artist, but as a guitarist, Latimer has him beat

Gilmour by a hair. He's more original and influential than Latimer and I prefer his solos by a small margin.

On the other hand, Latimer is more technically skilled, slightly more versatile/creative and has a slightly nicer tone.

Confused Sure about that?
Both are fine guitarists but I wouldn't elevate them into virtuoso status.

Anyway my vote went to Gilmour.

Ouch - that most rare of things, a really, really tough poll.

On the one hand, we have Gilmour, with the most recognisable tone and most magnificent lead melodies in rockdom, and on the other, we have Latimer, the only man who can make a single note sound like an entire symphony, and with a wider variety of styles and techniques in his general arsenal than Gilmour, that he puts to stunning use in creating leads of a more quixotic and less immediate nature.

Therefore Latimer - but only just.
The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Very tough call; I finally chose Latimer, maybe influenced by the sad news of his serious illness
