Just come across this "band" of ukelele virtuosi and comedians... check out their videos at

Their covers available for download at their website are excellent, from tunes by Kate Bush to the Sex Pistols - all very tongue-in-cheek
The best eclectic music on the Web,8-11pm BST/GMT THURS.

I have a problem with them, as they played Fairport's Cropredy festival a couple of years ago at a particularly unfortunate time; picture the scene:

The Muffin Men (the UK's premier Zappa tribute act - inc Jimmy Carl Black on Beefheart-esque vocals) had just finished a storming set (with a magnificent version of 'Willie The Pimp') that had the entire crowd (from the front of the stage, all the way back to the portaloos at the back of the fiend) on its feet baying for more... there then followed 25,000 people boo-ing as they weren't allowed an encore...

Then the announcement:

"please welcome the Ukelele Orchestra Of Great Britain"

I went to the bar (again) and couldn't take them seriously, as they'd interrupted Zappa's music...

There is the  right time and right place - btw are you supposed to take a musical comedy act seriously?

Probably not, we were just more than a little miffed that our little Zappa-esque treat had been refused an encore...

In fact, it could be said we had a petulant frenzy
