what Jazz/fusion album are you listening to ?

Sorry, not a fan of the Mahavishnu Project.  To me they have all the talent but none of the feel of the original.  Surprisingly a band that comes close (to me) is Garaj Mahal.  At times to me they awful Mahavishnu like, then again at times they sound like a jam band at college night at some beer bar.  A real strange combination.

I totally disagree with this dude I have both mahavhsnu project cds, the both smoking interpretations of MHVO music.The emerald is my fav so far. These guys are f**king amazing and I like the most is eventhough they are a tribute band, the versions are so original and fresh. The theme of the originals are there but they don't copy of their songs exactly the same way.

This is my review of the lastest release.

As a big McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra fan, when I heard that there were a tribute band of this extra ordinary fusion band of the 70's I was very surprised, because these days most tribute bands are dedicated to play only rock band’s music. That's where the money is!! Also at the same times I thought that this band was just like any tribute band that plays the music exactly the same way it was original composed. Sound familiar, how boring!!

However this is not the case of this band. They do take MH’s compositions, but express them in their own language, but without losing the beauty, strength, magic, musicianship of the original compositions. This time the band chooses to perfome live in NYC the whole Visions of the Emerald and Beyond, which by the way is my favorite mahavishnu orchestra’s album. Whoa and more whoa is what I can say about how incredibly well played these musicians played that night. All the songs from the original album are here, but the main different is that the band created every extended version. It will blow you away. Believe me, it did to me!! If you are a fan of the Mahavishu Orchestra and love this album, you won’t be disappointed when you buy it. It's worth every penny and every dollar. It is simply brilliantly well done. Get it!!! Anyway as you said that why they make vanilla and chololate ice cream. It's all a matter of a taste.
Tribal Tech is one of my Favorite Fusion band for more that a decade, but we all have the freedom to choose what we enjoy.!!!!
I bet you like some bands that I problably dislike alot too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody got this yet - love her dynamic  acoustic piano playing but puzzled by the gimmicky electronic keyboards she also employs . On first listening the tracks with such embellishments seem to lose something, they become rather jokey. However, Fuze guesting on guitar is as mighty as ever.

Just started on Waynes Krantz's  Another Live '06 - Krantz has decided to plough an independent furrow in the jazz fusion world, free of record company ties. So support the indie artist!!!
