I was reading a page on the history of Magma and saw that Jannick Top had been developing his trademark bass style in a previous band called Speed Limit. Do you guys know anything about it? Are their albums any good?

Yes, I have their first album, and his "trademark" there is pretty evident. Still looking for the second one (I was told there is one, though I can't seem to find it).
It's nice jazzy/(slightly) avantgarde music, not anything amazing, but should appeal to the folks who lurk this thread and similar.
EDIT 1: Wait, I'll have something more for you in a couple of minutes....
EDIT 2: I plan on adding them to PA sometime in the future... (after all the bands I still need to add).

that's a hot line up. just three long tracks on the record? interesting
oh, also, does anyone know the total running time of Eider Stellaire III? I found something that looked like it and matches the track names we have listed in the archives but is only 27 minutes long altogether
edit: Ravelax definetly knows the answer to this one

Aww, it looks like they haven't reissued Speed Limit. And vinyl copies seem to be rare.
Thanks for the info, though.

The copy I have is 26:45 Nihil - 10:23 L'Encre des Litanies - 6:40 Sans Repose - 9:42 It think it just a short album although I'd expect Sans Repose to be longer.

Have you listened to their unreleased album? Personally, I think it's their best. The same for Weidorje's unreleased album. That's if both albums are by the band, of course, but if they're not, they're still great Zeuhl albums.

Anybody know anything about the next Magma album? Any idea when it will come out? It looks like they'll finish up the Kohntarkosz trilogy with Ementeht-Re, but I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere.

Long time no smell fellas!
A bit of news about Koenji Hyakkei (nothing too earth-shattering mind):
Miyako has left the band to concentrate on Le*Silo

All the best to her and we are hoping to see another release from them (maybe this year?).
Are they (Le Silo) planning to perform outside of Japan?

avers as far as I know there are no plans due to finances. I know that they would love to tour outside Japan (they played a gig in France once and Miyako is quite profficient in French) so it's possible.

Not exactly sure if it is gonna finish up the trilogy, but I can't wait to see it performed live at NEARFest!

I heard there's been one or more albums by Vander and Top together that aren't Magma albums. Are they any good?

I thought it was just under their names; Vander and Top or Top and Vander or something.

There is the band called Univeria Zekt, which is basically Magma under a different name (post 1001 Centigrade). Do you mean them? By the way, the translation of Univeria Zekt is Univers Zero.

Sorry I'm not going to be off much help. The only other projects I know Top has been in are 'Troc' [pre his magma era] and 'speed limit'.
Anyone else heard that s/t 'Troc' album [72]? A very funkish Jazz fusion album with janik's signature bass.
