We're closer to the 80's!!!... As you know you have to choose your favourite album between Yes and Genesis. The tourney started with their debut albums and will stop with their late 70's/early 80's albums. Every round will face the next studio album of both discographies and you have to choose your favourite...

So let's vote. I don't know what I'll do at the end of the 10th or 11th or 12th poll LOL but let's enjoy this musical battle...

Best regards from Chile... (This round will close next monday)

History of Elimination:
YES Yes vs. GENESIS From Genesis to Revelation
YES Time and a Word vs. GENESIS Trespass
YES The Yes Album vs. GENESIS Nursery Cryme
YES Fragile vs. GENESIS Foxtrot

YES Tales from Topographic Oceans vs. GENESIS The Lamb lies down on Broadway
YES Relayer vs. GENESIS A Trick of the Tail
YES Going for the One vs. GENESIS WInd & Wuthering
... E N E L B U N K E R...

Neither is among the best albums by either band, but I think I have to vote for Tormato just because of On the Silent Wings of Freedom.

I refuse to vote for any, Tormato is cheesy to an extreme and ATTW3 is mediocre at the best IMO.

Tormato is a good album. Most of the songs on ATTWT are either dull or annoying (or both).

Despite I'm a strong fan of Yes, this time I'll vote for "And then..." There's "Deep in the Motherload" inside!

Both are good but not excellent. I prefer Tormato.

Funny thread... I didn't realize Yes & Genesis had so many things in common just by comparing their album releases:
- their first album is folk oriented,
- their second album starts with "T",
- their third albums has "yes" in the title (okay, you have to read it backwards for Genesis ;))
- their fourth album starts with "F",
- their most popular (and arguably best) albums are both 5th in release order,
- their sixth album is both a double-CD and controversial,
- the next two ones go back to "the roots", but have a few crappy pop songs,
- the 9th one is the beginning of the end for both bands. (both are pretty unpopular)
- the 10th one is a definitive improvement (Drama and Duke),
- and the 11th one begins the "commercial success era".

I guess we can say their paths have split starting from the 12th album. Still, that's pretty funny. Did they emulate each other or something? ;)

Tormato for me.
I'm running still,
I shall until,
one day I hope that I'll arrive

Tormato is good, but ATTWT is sensational. Clap

Tormato could be one of the greatest simple album names ever

I don't see how Yes' first album is "folk-oriented" and the word "yes" isn't backwards in the title of "Nursery Cryme" (unless you miss out the r).

Really? I thought it was quite obvious, on the contrary. It's classic folk-rock from the late 60's.

Quote and the word "yes" isn't backwards in the title of "Nursery Cryme" (unless you miss out the r).

That was intentional ;) You can at least give me some credit for trying!

Tormato wins. It has its moments. It gets off the ground, but then crashes back down. ATTWT, ugh...I don't understand all the good reviews of it; I have tried and tried to give that album a chance, but it leaves me feeling...I don't know...abused, like I rely on those guys to weed out the crap, and they didn't; they left some crap in. Same with Abacab; they left some crap in as filler. It's dishonest, and Collins for one should have known it. He should have said guys, this album is cold and lifeless; lets wait and develop some more tunes. But no, the fans will buy it; it's got some good songs. I wasted too much of my life listening to crap from bands that should know better: Hackett-less Genesis, later Yes, Water-less Floyd (sorry, it's true), and all those other BS bands: Asia, GTR, etc. ad nauseum. I know you're trying to make money to pay the bills and so you don't have to go work for a company and do corporate work, but don't write crap you think will sell when you know it's crap, and I know you know it's crap, Phil.

Yeah! And I could do even better! Album titles "Fragile" and "Foxtrot" both begin with F, yeah, but they're also two seven-letter single words!
