Attention Rush fans!
As we all know there are serious problems with Rush's Vapor Trails CD. Whether its mastering issues, clipping, etc who care but we know it sound rough. There are rumours that it HAS been remastered but either way its not been released.
Some of the guys at Counterparts Rush Forum have put together an on-line petition to send to Anthem and you can access the petition site here:

I thought they had remastered this already. But is the album really good enough to buy in a remasterd version if you already have the original pressing.
It has to be a good album if you are willing to pay for the album twice, though on the other hand i did buy Union from Yes twice, both times knowing it was a horrible album.
Of course for people not having the album, it would be an improvement if they can buy it in a better sound quality.
anyway i'll sign it, but only because sucking up to higher authorities is second nature to me. |

Honestly, neither did I. I love Ceiling Unlimited and Ghost Rider, but most everything else is only good to me. I don't even have the final 4th of the album because it got screwed in the burning process. I would buy it if I ever remember to. |

I signed it .. not sure it will do much good though, from what I understand the production is beyond fixing properly anyway .. really the only way is for Rush to go back in the studio and start from scratch again

Good point Tuxon. To those who say they do not like Vapor Trails but are fans of the bands I say this: dont you think the album would be improved by being remastered? If it was more dynamic and you could actually sit through it in one sitting?
The album does have problems both at the recording and mastering stages. Apparently some of the problems were noticed pre-mastering but it was too late in the day to go back....
...as Tux infers there is more to it not being re-issued than there seems at first glance. If the band admit its faulty doesnt that mean that they would be liable to compensate everyone who bought it...?

The legal answer is easy .. re do the performance live play the entire thing, record it and release the whole thing as a single CD ... Legaly nothing can be done if they do a live recording ... thats the best solution I can think of that takes care of any legal matters

I think VT is one of Rush's best albums even with the bad sound. So I think if the production problems are solved this beatiful piece of work can reach a whole another level. Yes, maybe if they play the album live in its entirety..... technically It would be another release (plus, they played only 5 of the 13 songs live). That would be really interesting, a bit like DT did with When Dream And Day Unite. Edited by mistertorture - April 30 2007 at 13:16 |

I've signed it and asked if they can get rid of that high-pitched squeeling noise that seems to occur on all Rush albums. Do they always have a sick cat in the studio when they record, tis a shame 'cos they are one hell of an instrumental group.

Just saw this at http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/VTnews.htm#remaster
Vapor Trails Remaster News
"I now have a 2001 Audi A6 4.2...It has their upgraded Bose system. It's a great system. I'm in that car listening all the time, listening to mixes. I base all of my decisions on what I hear in that car." - Alex Lifeson, RoadGearMag.com, May 2002 July 2004: Atlantic announces it will reissue the first five Atlantic era Rush studio albums (Presto through Vapor Trails), However, Vapor Trails is not included among the Atlantic reissues eventually released on Aug. 31, 2004. Mar. 2005: Atlantic adds a preorder link for the Vapor Trails remaster on its website, and a source close to Anthem Records confirms its release is imminent. May 16, 2005: Atlantic Records once again delays the release of the Vapor Trails Remaster. Fans hoping for a clean recording without the audio problems found in the original release will have to wait. What is confirmed is that the album has been remastered, and although nothing has been said officially, it is rumored that Atlantic decided to delay releasing the remaster until the next Rush release, as there are apparently plenty of the original in stock. Those who preordered the remaster from the Atlantic website received the following email: April 28, 2007: As "the next Rush release" is here with no news of a Vapor Trails remaster, it has been learned that "it won't be re-released for a while". Whether that means later this year, or some time in the far future is undetermined. |
