Did anyone else think "Why don't I just listen to Metallica?"
I still have some hope for the rest of the album.

Hmm...does sound a little too Metallica...but I also have hope for the rest of the album (I enjoyed some of the short samples I've heard).
And hey...you can hear John Myung in one part! |

-Sounds like the middle section of a song from ToT.
-Metallica -Petrucci's playing is sick as ever -Lyrics suck. And from the sounds of it, much of the album will follow suit. -The part at 2:48 reminds me of Opeth and is pretty cool -The Test that Stumped them All -The instrumental section is pretty cool. -Jordan Rudess' solo is ridiculous and dumb per usual (it starts out okay and then gets progressively worse. Also, he overuses that patch.) -MP's tight as hell -Still sounds a little better than almost every track but the title track off of 8VM. Edited by Fuzz - April 27 2007 at 20:30 |

Well I'm not a fan of this track. It had no feeling- no inspiration.
There was typical Petrucci heavy solo riffing and Jordan's annoying guitar synth patch. I will say this again- Mike Portnoy should stay away from the pen- His lyrics are not very good. A Change of Seasons and the Glass Prison are quite good- But I find his lyrical style to be extremely boring and frank sounding. Shorter, heavier songs meant to be singles are the worst side of DT in my opinion. |

I'm pretty meh about the song as of now. Nothing really bad about it (save for Rudess' solo, I'm not a huge fan of his playing as of late.)
In any case, I will probably pick this up someday, but Constant Motion hasn't really made me want to run out and grab it the day it comes out.
the few songs I've heard from Snakes & Arrows on the other hand....

I hated the verses, liked the chorus .. the music section was nicely played .. over all I think I`m going to give this effort a 6.5/10 the verses sounding so much like Metallica didn`t do much for me I mean it was OK when Metallica invented that sound but its hardly worth an emulation.
This will appeal to the heavier audience , but these guys are getting older (and so are we) I was hoping for some more maturity in their style ... this is a step backwards in many ways. I dare say this single may even hurt sales Edited by lighthouse - April 28 2007 at 02:03 |

Wow this song is incredible! I don't care if it sounds like Metallica, it's still much better than Octavarium, ToT or Six Degrees.

I have to say this is better than all of Octavarium (which isnt really saying much) and I'm now awaiting the new album with baited breath.

NO! Why is James singing like The Other James from Metallicock?
This one thing is really bad, but the whole song, besides that, is great.

I filled out the form an hour ago and still haven't received any email ...
I think they should simply publish the single in advance, like Rush and Threshold did. |

I think Jordan's born the same year as my father.... '56, which means that he is 50 or 51 years old |

Haha, well they definitely look like a Roadrunner Records group now, albeit aged.
