Hell, my writing can be pretty bizarre and dark (dark is much easier to write :) and it's probably a complement to my mostly cheerful disposition), but I'm not one push away from becoming a mass murderer.
I only read Richard McBeef, and it honestly reads like something a 9th grader would write, so I couldn't stand to read any more (is anyone else interested what grade he got for that course?). So much so that it made me smile a few times because it was so over the top (but of course that he was entirely serious makes it very scary) like when Sue came and started fighting with Richard and when she randomly picked up a chainsaw from nowhere, or the very random ending (Is it even possible to punch someone that hard?). However, I think attempting to psychoanalyze him or say what should have been done at this point is fruitless because it's impossible to try to understand him from 20 pages he wrote for a creative writing class. I don't think anyone except another crazy person could possibly understand him, even if he were still alive.
I'm hoping this post doesn't get me branded as a terrible person.

You
can't expel a kid just because he likes to write weird plays.
Lots of people write weird, violent sh*t, but most of them aren't
nutcases that shoot up schools.

I agree with this. College is supposed to be about the free exchange of
ideas, no matter how controversial or disturbing. Sadly, this is not
often the case. Speaking as practically the only conservative at my
college, I can honestly say that I was shut out of discussions more
than once because of my unpopular opinions.
Also, almost every college kid has angsty periods where they write bizarre, disturbing stuff that they don't mean.
Freedom of speech, baby!

I have to disagree...we expelled a student at Manhattan College for speaking his mind in his little booklet. The plays are not "weird", they are downright disturbing, sick and are clearly coming from the mind of a delusional, crazed, sick and violent human being. Sure, write weird violent things, but not for a classroom to read and for your professors to grade!
And I agree, hindsight certainly is 20/20, my concerns are wholeheartedly with the most affected in this

TLC, so true man, but hindsight IS 20/20.
Hopefully, this will be a lesson for the future, and ANY authorities will be more reactive.

I heard that certain anti-depressants cause users to have higher suicide rates than placebos, perhaps he was on one of those.

Yea, it must be tough to try and root out though, it IS just writing. But if this kid was starting fires, and stalked people....maybe 2 and 2 should've been put together.

Hey man, Tech is a great school, this stuff really doesn't happen often! Don't let it dissuade you from applying.
Anyway, here's my new favorite development: Fred Phelps and the WBC are coming to protest the funerals of the shooting victims! If you don't know, this is the same group who go around protesting the funerals of american soldiers who were killed in Iraq, because they believe that God hates america because of our society's tolerance of homosexuals. And now they're coming here.

that group makes me laugh/sick at the same time...it's a strange feeling  anyway, I may still apply, because at this point its more likely that less people are going to apply, and in addition, to compensate, VT will probably shape up security measures a ton.....I'll keep it in mind though

i feel very bad for the families and survivors of this tragedy. It is a shame that some ass decided to take out his aggressions on a bunch of people who were just minding their own business and getting along with their lives.

One of my friends goes to Virgina Tech, but he was confirmed fine right after the news...just thought id let everyone know...coming from Long Island, though, im waiting to hear of any other students from my HS that may go there, not just from my class...

wellbutrin is just one of several anti-depressants that can cause sever anger in normally passive people. personality change can be slighty increasing overtime or may onset quickly. most mental medical professionals tell patients complaining of these symptoms not to discontinue there use if they complain of anger fits/mania, but to now take another anti-depressant with it to offset that brain chemical reaction. sort of a mental cocktail rollercoaster ride, often as many as 10-12 drugs may be used by the doctor before the patient harms someone or themselves. many new anti-depressant/anxiety drugs are being tested daily in our public society and brain chemical altering drugs historically only used in medical facilities are now often prescribed in large amounts to the mass of public residencies.
wellbutrin is now prescribed under another name as the most prescribed STOP SMOKING remedy in the USA.

If he really was such a loner, and had no one at all, then those grusome stories should have been seen as a cry for help. I'd imagine it must be a TOUGH thing to look into though.
I also heard he was on medication for depression. It's rare, I assume, but don't anti-depressants sometimes cause anxiety, mania, in other words...worse depression?

Id also like to add to why I feel that way about those essays not being brought to anyone attention (as far as that student is stating, maybe they were? Shocked...):
At my school, a student made a small print out book of political outrages and opinions, choc full of profanity, nudity and disgusting ideas. He was expelled IMMEDIATELY! No questions asked!
Upon being expelled, supposedly he planned to blow up an army recruiting center near here, this came out and i believe he is in confinement somewhere...

An absolute dispicable and horrible tragedy. I am very sad about this. Chris, I am very sorry to hear about your friends, you must feel numb inside. My thoughts are with all those involved - directly and indirectly - in this tragedy.
