Yes, I saw a programme about these people on UK TV conducted by Louis Theroux.

Let's not go down that route in this thread though....Smile

How's your friend, Chris?

... and also prayers for the parents of the gunman. Imagine what it must be like, to always be perceived as the parents of THAT guy.

The families of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims managed to reach out to his devastated family, here's hoping for the same here.

VA Tech handled this situation as badly as possible.

I can only wonder how this will hurt their recruiting

I was actually considering applying there, and may still, though the chances of me doing so are admittedly diminished

Hey man, Tech is a great school, this stuff really doesn't happen often!  Don't let it dissuade you from applying.

Anyway, here's my new favorite development:  Fred Phelps and the WBC are coming to protest the funerals of the shooting victims!  If you don't know, this is the same group who go around protesting the funerals of american soldiers who were killed in Iraq, because they believe that God hates america because of our society's tolerance of homosexuals.  And now they're coming here.

awesome.

Are you s******g me? Fred Phelps....I am familiar with him. Disgusting human being.

Just heard they know who the gunman is, but aren't releasing his name yet. Supposedly, he had some serious inner demons and what looks like mental disorders. Which is not surprising of course.

Oh wow, thank you. Anyone hear about a note he left in the dorm?
Supposedly rambling about rich kids, backstabbers, etc.
Clearly, not a kid who just "lost it"....

Today was horrible for me. Since I'm the only American at my school  (here in the UK) the shooting at Virgina Tech was bound to come up, but the way people were joking about the situation and stuff was sickening. It hurt to even think about the incident and here people in my school were cracking jokes about it. It made me feel so angry and mad. I hope everything is alright with you guys in Virgina and have to deal with this and my prayers are with you guys and those involved. Another thing that I am praying for is for the victim's families and friends to forgive the shooter for what he did and not have a burning anger towards him and his family.

Wow, this is a totally surreal experience... I haven't slept in about 30 hours... I went to the press conference this morning and I had to stand in a room on a completely separate floor and watch the conference on a monitor.

Swear to God, I was standing right next to Tucker Carlson.

I'm about to go visit my friend at the hospital, I'll update later when I get back and have a nap.

This was a tragedy of the highest level. It seems we live in a world where nothing is respected or regarded.  My heart goes out to those who are victims and to the shooters family as well.  Having a daughter who lives on campus some 400 miles away I can really sympathize with these families.  No matter what there never really is any kind of answer for this kind of madness.

GS my best wishes to the friend that was wounded and hope he recovers soon.

That's despicable that people could even joke about the VT shootings.  It just happened yesterday, and families and friends are still in grief and pain.  I guess that just shows the maturity of some of today's youth.

I'm sorry you had to be exposed to that.

I was sitting in bed trying to go to sleep last night, and I was just thinking about how awful the event was.

Drugs certainly bring out the worst in some. But I find the half-terms schizo or psycho to be more convincing. Sometimes the core of a criminal mind is not in education (how many are considered black sheeps of their families). Sometimes these criminal tendencies are innate and crime, under these suppositions, might never end.

My condolences to those affected by these terrible news.

OK, back from the hospital.

My friend is doing really well, he's resting in good spirits and was really happy to see everyone who came out to support him.

Thank you all so much for your concern today, it really means a lot.  But for now, I need to finally get some sleep.

Incredible information, as far as im concerned:

I read btoh plays and the students letter...unbelieveable that these plays were NOT brought to any authoritative attention...

It really is horrible, the amount of disturbance shining through on these essays is incredible.  For a student with no friends and to have students even discussing the possibility of him shooting up the school is incredible...

An absolute dispicable and horrible tragedy.  I am very sad about this.  Chris, I am very sorry to hear about your friends, you must feel numb inside.  My thoughts are with all those involved - directly and indirectly - in this tragedy.
