Discovered RUSSIAN CIRCLES few days ago, and they're marvelous. A lot related to Russian INFRONT band - the same mid-Post-Rock/mid-Metal style, very melodical and without these pointless noises I usually dislike in Experimental stuff . Extremely recommended!!!

I see someone posted a while ago about a band called maybeshewill. These are a very good band i have to say, and are just one of the many prog and alternative bands from around the midlands area of england. I would recommend checking out the following:
  • Herra Hidro   (these are more alternative than prog, but they are different than anythingi have ever heard)
  • You Slut!
  • RedCarsGoFaster
  • Maybeshewill
("Maybeshewill sound like Mogwai would if the latter had ever found love in an arthouse cinema. And then were beaten around the head with a keyboard." - Drowned in Sound )
  • Tired Irie
  • Fight Fire With Water

These are all brilliant bands which each take their own unique approach to their music. All of these bands are on myspace

WEG's Hurtbreak Wonderland and Russian Circle's Enter are both excellent albums and I agree with both opinions on them. For Hurtbreak Wonderland I still need some more listens for it to fully sink just like their previous album. Russian Circle were great from the get go.

There's nothing better than a good ol' punch in the groin in the morning by Russian Circle to get the day started! LOL

BTW ZJB7, thanks for the list. More bands to discover.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but archive.org is home to a wealth of sanctioned bootlegs (trade-friendly bands and such) for GY!BE, Explosions, Mono, Silver Mt. Zion, Do Make Say Think, and others.

Also, there's some pretty good homemade stuff if you throw post-rock into the search under "music and arts"
Wh'ghal ng'fth mglw'y Ry'leh, Cthulhu fhtagn...

Great news everyone!!

We detected some vital signs in the name Godspeed You! Black Emperor !  Here's some new news I found in boringmachines.blogspot.com about them:

Over the last couple of days, there has been an outbreak of free and legal mp3's surfacing on the net, that warrants this post:

(...)

Godspeed You Black Emperor!

Last, but certainly not least, a demo from the enigmatic Godspeed You! Black Emperor has spread across the web. It is not known if it is new material or an older recording, but is worth downloading just for the fact that it is Godspeed. Let's hope they return from their self-imposed exile.

"Untitled Demo" mp3 - Godspeed You! Black Emperor

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Hey.. I know this is stupid, but I'm having a hard time with downloading this.

It gives me a .rar file, and I have no idea what to do with it

Go to  www.download.com  and download   Winrar. It opens .zip and .rar files. It may be very useful in the near future. Trust me. Wink

I have albums from ALL post rock bands listed in progarchives, and some which are not. Explosions in the sky keeps being the best for me though.

Well I figured that the guy running the blog posted it in April 1st so it may be an April fools joke, but from what I know he isn't much of a funny guy. Whatever it isn't legit.

I don't know if I should be happy or not, but still at least the song is good. Approve

Cool! Russian Circle fans should definitely check out Gifts From Enola - Loyal Eyes Betrayed the Mind. While it may not be as good as Russian Circle's Enter (in my opinion), but for people looking for bands in the similar vein should definitely check them out. Highly recommended!

Reevan: Good to see you liking post-rock that much. I still haven't listened to all of the albums from every post-rock band in the website. It isn't easy to do. Care to share with us the bands you know of that aren't here in PA?

I was wondering is that song "lower" (on this site) really Mogwai, If it is I just lost a ton of respect for them.

Well I didn't see a link to the source where he found the song so that looks pretty fishy...

And Proletariat, it says that its them... But that isn't the Mogwai I know of. Confused It sure sounds different. It says that it's from their first single so I can forgive them for that.
