As a follow-up to this message, I thought why not create a poll on the matter.
I would love to see the following changed on a collaborator's reviewer's page on the main website (for instance, here's mine): nowadays whenever one visits my profile page, the first review to appear is IQ - 7th house, because it has a high rating, but what I want readers to see is my most up-to-date review, mainly because my writing has advanced and my more recent works are just better than the old ones. So what do others think? What should become the default sorting methode for the list of reviews? - Chronological with the most recent one at the top of the list and the oldest one at the bottom? - In alphabetical order? - By rating... either 5*-1* or 1*-5*? Bob/Easy Livin has said it's quite an easy change in the website's programming so just let us know what you think would be the best option... I think it should be shown in chronological order with the most recent at the top as the default setting, but obviously ive the choice to have it sorted by ratings and anything else that can be thought of.

Is there the possibilty to make this topic a sticky? Seeing that most people only vote and not leave a reply. Just in case it might disappear of the frontpage of this subfora. We could have it run for the next # of days and then take a look at what the outcome is. What you say about this? Bob? Tony?

Chronological order seems like a good idea.

The thing is that if I'm trying to see if your reviews might help guide me as to new albums, chronological order means nothing. Apart from ego, I don't know that it matters much to me whether your writing has improved.

Sorting by rating allows one to get a good picture of the reviewer's tastes at a quick glance. If your favorite albums and his/her favorite albums have several albums in common, you can look into the albums the reviewer has given 4 or 5 stars, thus allowing you to expand your musical tastes.
Chronological order doesn't really help for anything. Edited by rileydog22 - April 08 2007 at 21:35 |

Alphabetical. Easier to look after bands that interest you among the reviewers ratings.

That's what the find function is for. CTRL-F, type in the band/album you are looking for.

Chronological makes most sense, IMO.
It also shows the reviews re their ratings in a more balanced-seeming light. (Not just a load of five-star reviews at the outset.)
When I arrange my CDs in my bookcases (that's where I store them, as I have perhaps 1500), I arrange them alphabetically by artist, naturally, then in chronological order for within any one artist's discs.
I think it would be nice if folks could see, at a glance, if a reviewer has done a newer review since they last checked.

Alphabetical order is good in the cases of those reviewers with many reviews. For example, if I was to search for Rico's views on PF's "Animals" without knowing how many stars he gave it, searching for it in his review list would be a real burden, just like looking for it bellow the album entry. And he's not always around, to quench my curiosity by PM-ing him.
Chronological order is also good, especially for the reviewer themselves; it helps them have a general picture of the evolution of their writing. It also helps those of us who got more familiar to each other to understand our friends' tastes and the way they developed. Right now we have one list drawn by combining the number of stars factor with the alphabetical factor. I would rather have a chronological list of reviews, separated in subgenres groups, but also the possibility to switch to the current viewing or to more other useful combinations (like, for example - just an idea, don't kill me - a "date of release" factor). |

Keep 'em coming, the more views we get on this the better. A low total vote indicates complacency.
