Best Guitar?

^I think Epiphone was left out because they're Gibson's budget/copy line (that's also probably why Squier was left out). Anyway, you only get a decent Epihpone for the same price as a great Ibanez. Epiphones are overpriced, though not as horribly so as Gibsons. Epiphones are also better than Squiers.

I like Gibson a lot, but it depends what I want to do. If I want to play the blues, Gibsons and Fenders tend to exhibit the best tone. Same with jazz (mostly Gibson, but the Tele has a beautiful tone for jazz). If I want to shred, I'd use any of them. Shredding is not as hard as one might think, and what makes shredding shine is how comfortable you are with the guitar. Oh yeah, low action helps too. For this reason, my Les Paul is my favorite guitar to shred on (a Strat comes close) - I'm not very comfortable on an Ibanez.

However, Ibanez makes excellent acoustics that last forever and have great tone. I have a 20 year old Ibanez, and it's amazing. I like it very much.

I'll go with Gibson for my Les Paul.

Well, it depends on your playing style. Plus, if the guitar has the right specs (action, intonation of the bridge, fast neck, wide neck, whatever), it's all up to the guitarist. There's a story that two contemporary jazz guitarists (I think Bill Frisell and someone else) swapped guitars and got the exact same tones.

Now, there is a difference in tone between a Strat and an LP, but if you want the "chinky" bell-like tone of a Strat, and the sweet maple neck and the light body of a Strat, you'd want the strat. But if you want that thick, creamy humbucking sound with the huge sustain and lightning fast neck, you'd get the LP.

Personally, I like LPs better, but I love Strats. I've played several Ibanez guitars, and I'm impressed with the whammy bar and neck, but I like the thick, purposeful feel of an LP.

I'm a hypocrite. I own an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, but would prefer a Fender Strat. A Fender Deluxe Powerhouse Strat made in Mexico, to be exact. Of course, I would also like to have the $999CAD I need in order to get said guitar. I do accept donations.
