The reported one... others being evaluated.

I mean when I reported him there were already only raitings, no text.

People are still allowed to give only ratings, without texts... so the ratings are still valid although less valuable for the album final rating.

The one reported had a tiny and personal comment that shouldn't be considered a real text, that's the reason I erased it. Now only the rating is displayed with its little valor.

Do raitings appear as reviews in a member's profile?

Yep... an entry for each rating having or not a text.

I advice all of those who accuse me of DT-fanboyism to read my rather extensive review of Scenes from a memory. Now let's see if you still think I like the band! Big%20smileBig%20smileBig%20smile

this isn't a complaint but just a bored observation

Average amount of occurrences of the phrases "Gentle Giant" or "GG" in the reviews of Advent's "Cantus Firmus" album: 2.5

N'BAD. Do reviewers read what each of the others write?

I find that most don't read mine, anyway. & at best, I usually pick through one or two posts in a thread before setting my wisdom down for others to overlook. But yeah, sometimes a lot of us just write for our own entertainment. Kinda like most bloggers, Facebook & Myspace users; the diahrrea  - like explosion of  the  "hey look at me" movement Big%20smile
P.S. There are 2 or 3 "veterans" that I can always grab if I respond "appropriately" to their sermons Wink
Feel free to private message me if this sounds like the sort of fun you'd like to get out of this site. I don't want to needlessly attract their venom, eh.

Your english is not perfect but it's good enough so that you make your points clear in your three reviews, which may need some gramatical correction but just that, they are coherent and informational, good reviews for someone trying to find some references about what Argentinian's prog sounds like. People may not now who Spinetta or Garcia are, (as we Southamericans do) but you explain very clearly the varied influences from jazz to tango. So it's just a matter of improving the not-so-bad-as-you-said english and voila, a great reviewer to join the ranks of un-employed and un-appointed reviewers in PA! Big%20smile

I don't know really where exactly this report should appear, so, my apologies if this is the wrong place.

I just found, by chance, that there are two Porcupine Tree Signify reviews by the same reviewer:

I know that those reviews deal with different issues (one is the original album, the second is the 2 CD re-issue), but still, something should be done here, in my opinion. I don't know what exactly -- unite the review texts, or create a new entry for the different issue...

I think the re-issue was originally listed separately. The reviews for it will have been moved to the original album when the duplicate album was deleted.

DREAM THEATER — Scenes From A Memory Metropolis Part II
Review by micky (Michael)

5%20stars 'remember the area in the store where all those cheeses were... it has nothing on this album'

Words of logic spoken by my better half as we both sat through this album tonight. I first bought this album, about a year ago, in a used CD store. A couple bucks... why not. I had previous experience with this group in another forum where rabid but well-meaning friends had tried to convert me to the church of DT. Needless to say... the irratating to the ears vocals, non-existant bass, incredibly tasteless and nerve-wracking synth tones, heavy handed drummng, and pointless shredding that said more 'look at me' than anything else, did nothing for me. Thus I remained uncoverted.

Last fall as the symphonic horsemen ran roughshod over the acne-scarred masses and for a time being made even mentioning DT in the public forums a crime worthy of having horseshoe inprints on your rear end, I recieved a request to review the one album I did buy. This one. I gave the album the seven listens, I ALWAYS give an album when seriously evaluating an album. Since the request came from a friend I said I would. Alas I never got around to it. Tonight, after having a fresh listen, I was inspired to finally get around to reviewing it. With Caravan soothing my ears.. I thus proceed.

The problem.. what to say that hasn't been said. We have everything from the uberfayboyism that proclaims this a masterpiece on par with Close to the Edge, Zarathrustra, MDK, YS, and SEbtP....to those who wouldn't have their worst enemy dare listen to it. I tend to fall between them.. though leaning a bit to one side hahah. To help with my problem.. I have decided on a novel approach. Since the previous reviews are so.... verbose and yet to the point. Why not let them say it for me. So I proceed with my thoughts on the album... said so much better by reviewers before me....

'The lackluster narrative is presented with artless exposition; they've compromised between using lyrics that fit the song and fitting the music to the story, and as a result everything sounds contrived.'

'I find listening to this CD to be just a little more enjoyable than viewing images of endless Middle Eastern atrocities, or reading the gruesome details of the latest killings by some gun-toting psychopath.'

'SPEECHLESS'

'Not a masterpiece - and not Prog - just long'

'The musicianship is extremely competent but for every good idea (and there are some) there is one equally crass and stupid'

'I can honestly think of few albums as tedious to listen to as Dream Theater's "magnum-opus" '

'This album for me highlights for me what Dream Theater is about. 5 musicians who all do their own thing, and though they are all respected in their specific fields, they fail at coming together to make a solid band.'

'It sounds like an exaggeration but this album goes on for 77 minutes and I can scarely point to the bits of music I enjoyed '

Anyway... that album sums up what I thought of the album. I couldn't bother with a track by track breakdown since it all ran together and the overall concept bored me and I lost interest in trying to follow the storyline. I was honestly only roused to attention when some overplaying guitar solo, some hai-raising vocal infringement on good taste, or cheesy (see above) synth tone interrupted the stupor I had slipped into.

For the site...5 stars... a masterpiece of prog metal... and my review says enough on that.

For me... 1 star and I will never sit through the album again. I have 100's of 'real' prog albums that emphasize melody, tasteful musicianship, interesting and listenable vocals.

As every anti-Dt review, the fans get some bashing, too. But I think he actually speaks about the music. if using someone else's word (a fact he clearly explains), so i don't see any problem with it. (Besides the weird inconfruence between rating and comments, of course).

No Bob, the rating IS ABSOLUTELLY CONTRADICTORY.

The art of copy and paste is not reviewing and when the rating says the opposite to the review, both should be deleted IMHO.

I think I was very clear ......  I thought the album was painful to listen to... yet recognize that it is considered a masterpiece of prog ... err... prog metal.  Thus essential... much like TFTO... hate it or love it.... you have to hear it/own it. Essential.... 5 stars...

I'm not a prog album reviewer and never protended to be one.  Delete as you wish.  Take note that the 'T' who is the standard bearer of DT understood exactly what I getting at.  I have done that in ALL of my reviews... two ratings.. one for the site... and one for my personal impressions of it. Having understood there are people who share my tastes in music and have based their ... choices on some suggestions I have made. I loved the Yes Remixes album... and gave it one star for the site (for fans only) . I have been consistant.  And fair...

do as what you think needs to be done....  it was a valid review in my eyes...

Guigo.. as I said.. I trust your decision either way.  Anyone who reads my reviews knows to actually read them... not go on some stars that I have to give the album.   Granted I don't have a large fan club that eagerly awaits my album reviews... a sad lot they would be hahahha.... but they know how I review them.
