I'm seeing a pretty big modern symphonic bias for DPRP, but maybe that's good if the Kayo Dot is sh*t.

I promised Trickster not to use the Holy Name of The Dot in vain... unless it was with some deep purpose... or once a week, as I promised. So i guess is that time of the week again when i feel like re-awakening my Kayo-boy roots...
No wonder Kayo Dot's album is not on that list. The band is not even listed in that website!!!
But then again, that proves that this forum and website IS REALLY quite an ecclectic bunch of people...
Now focusing on the positive, THAT'S HOW IT"S DONE IT! The top album of the year gaining the recognition it deserves!

I think 2006 was relatively weak, but that is in part why 2007 is going to be a monster year for releases.

It's a pretty terrible list. I don't know how a 2006 best of list doesn't have Kayo Dot at least in the top 10.

I think that Paradox Hotel is a good choice for top album 2006 if you're going for mainstream compatibility ... or to put it another way: It sounds nice and everything's just as expected, it doesn't offend anybody. As far as I'm concerned ... I think it's ok, but also incredibly boring.

I'm pretty sceptical of any list that can include Operation:Mindrime II and not have it an 3 (4?) figure position.

lol that list is actually a fairly concise snapshot of what I hate about modern prog.
of course Mars Volta and Iron Maiden are solid and entertaining bands but as for the rest... Kayo Dot could take them all on with one hand =P =P Hi The T =P =P edit: what's even funnier is the DVD chart below that features neither GG at the GG or any Magma releases. xD Edited by laplace - April 05 2007 at 15:59 |

Monsters & Men the best song from Paradox Hotel?
I'm not the only one who thinks it's not the best, am I?

Well, it was voted for by the fans...unlike here where it was determined by a handful. Majority rules. I'm sure most will be happy this time next year when the results from 2007 has Porcupine Tree's new one voted the best. E |

God, I hope not. I can't be the only one who can't stomach Wilson's lyrical style on the new album...

As one stated, DPRP is at the pop end of the prog spectrum. Personally, I don't take their polls serious. One year they had Paul McCartney, Pet Shop Boys and Abba on top 100. Paradox Hotel is mainly pop and blues so it was bound to end up at the number one slot.

You wait because it'll happen. Wilson could sustain a long flatulent into a microphone, package and release it and people would still call it a masterpiece. I like Porcupine Tree (a lot, actually), but already see it being the year end's best for a lot. E |

Yeah, I was happy not to see Kayo Dot anywhere on there. Just listening to the samples made me want to drive an ice pick through my ears. E |
