All kidding aside Erik,

What I'd like to see a bit more is an acceptation of other's opinions a bit more. I personally saw no problem with that Camel review, don't see any with Cert's reviews: there are few members as musically knowledgeable as him and if I remember,Mark is a metalhead, which means that he most likely likes those groups he reviews.

I mean, you don't see me jumping around if someone thrashes Caravan's ITLOGAP or Tull's TAAB, because I accept differences of opinions (and couldn't give less of a hoot of those PA standings) just like i expects others to accept my opnions without reserves.

Well Sean, in the past I have also written one star reviews (about Marillion, Yes and Genesis) as a cynical joke after I had written hundreds of serious reviews. But at this moment I notice on the homepage more and more reviews that add absolute nothing to the information for the visitors, these reviews only seem to be written to provoke or to release some venom or out of pure subjective grounds. Along with the many non-prog reviews that are flooding the Prog Archives homepage, I miss the motivation to continue writing reviews for the homepage. On one hand I have a lot of pleasure doing the Symphonic Prog Appreciation Thread, on the other hand at some moments I have problems to control my frustrations about PA  while visiting The Forum, then I can be such a pain in the ass and being infamous for my blablabla, I will have a look on it, thank you Sean Thumbs%20Up

Actually Erik, I agree that a lot of reviews coming in don't add much to the ones already in, partly because for an album with fifty reviews, everything has been said 1000 times before.  On the other hand, on what grounds should we stop the reviewers to not review the classic albums simply because many of the members have done them before? We can't of course! And if those albums are classics and often reviewed, it is in general because they are well-known and owned by most members.

You and I write alot of reviews for seldomly reviewed albums (of which I own fairly few since I rent them out) and our goals are to make the members discover them. Just today I was to submit one Hella (only 4 reviews of this group's six albums) and one Flying Luttenbacher (not one single review yet for this group) review for unreviewed albums, but a bug stopped me from doing so, because all unreviewed albums are unable to receive reviews.Cry Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

BTW, I've no doubt that you'll get to 1000 before me, but I'll give you a run for your money.TongueWink

2%20stars Some of my friends rated this along with the Lamb on Broadway when it came out and I told to listen better and most of them never play this anymore , of course this only applies to the crusty old timers that we are , as most other young people did make this their Holy Grail. I sometimes wonder if the FK was not setting the goal at making the lengthiest tracks possible . In the following years they will put out many other fully filled double Cds full of fillers , lenghty directionless "jams "( lack of more precise word as this were not jams per se) , making for an incredible output in quantity but not quality. This is only an opinion and is not aimed at hurting anybody, artist or fans.

Now that we've left the metal discussion, let's focus on another member that makes a career out of bashing a singleband... (TongueLOLBig%20smileBig%20smileBig%20smile).... No, seriously, S.T's reviews of TFK are incredibly wrong in their content (Big%20smile), but this one just doesn't say ONE word about the music in the album, so I guess it has to be matter of debate if it deserves to survive. And Mr. Trane, no offense of course, I actually followed your classic reviews (not so much in form as they kind of... sucked? Big%20smileLOL, but in the CONTENT you always were on target) but please, if we take care of one of like 2000 reviews I don't think you will object, will you? Tongue

It's one thing to diss a record; not liking it is one thing.
It's quite another, however, to not only NOT like it, but whinge at those who do.  Not only that, but he says "don't come to a Progressive Rock site telling everyone how great and proggy it is"-it's here for a reason, whether you like it or not.  There's no need to gripe at people who like it simply because you don't.

you'd better not touch this, because if I do have to rent those albums again (and be subjected to this poor excuse of musicTongueTongueTongueTongue) to write a more complete review of TFK and discuss its music qualities (or lack of in this caseTongue) , not only will they very very very very unappreciative of the band, but the overall ratinng will take a plunge as I will revise my rating to a -4 stars (that's right -4, especially created for TFK and to my discretional use)LOL.

Plus I will sue you for expenses and time indemnization for having to write it againWink

Rush - Grace Under Pressure

1%20stars The death of Geddy's bass.

An album that makes me cringe, because the signature aspect of Rush is replaced and essentially lost. Grace Under Pressure is essentially a neo-prog album dressed as AOR. Geddy's monstrous bass lines that gave Rush its signature sound are all but gone and replaced by synth lines that are difficult to swallow even for the casual fan.

Speaking more plainly, theres a certain New Age quality to this album and a "stuck in the 80's" sound that will keep it from being a timeless artifact. It seems (unless history drastically changes) this will always be an 80's album. To compare it to A Farewell to Kings is to almost compare two different bands, especially considering the stylistic changes, and the mythical quality the band evoked in earlier albums.

I can't say with any confidence that any one of the songs are enjoyable. They are not played poorly by any means, but the sound to these ears is nothing more than average at best compositionally, and much worse given the overall aim of the album. Get this later in your Rush experience or be sure to avoid.

I cannot believe this reviewer at times. I can respect OG's  opinion but to give this album one star frankly is absurd.

I have to say that I agree with much of what that review states. When GUP came out it was a real shock to fans, all of whom had been used to stellar albums right up through Signals (or at least MP). Grace was a largely flat, uninspired and brooding record with none of the energy, excitement, great lyrics and pristine production of previous releases. It was as if the band was saying "Look-- we can't do this anymore, we have to clean up our act and play with the big boys." This was, IMO, disasterous for the band and took them years to recover from. It is, at best, a two star record and the reviewer is pointing this out in a frank and honest way.

needless to say ...I agree with Joey's  review LOL.  I think he makes valid points... underneath my all my humor on the subject... I believe and I guess others do.. that Rush did become an AOR band. I think they did some albums earlier though.

It is all about opinions I guess but 1 star for me is not a good call. Perhaps to review and rate conservatively is not a bad thing when often we get 5 stars based on first time listens. All good!

I am in complete agreement, and would like to remind everyone of this simple rule:

4 - Write in an intelligent and considerate manner. Rude or insulting language (including blatant vulgarity) will not be tolerated! Show respect for other reviewers, readers, the artists, and the CD and song titles. Do not belittle reviews posted by others, their opinions are as welcome and valid as yours. It is generally best to avoid commenting on other reviews altogether.
The following are examples of phrases which should NOT appear in reviews:  "Reviewer Joe Smith is stupid for saying that...", "Anyone who doesn't like this album is an idiot", "The band which made this album is rubbish", etc.,

That's why I'm concentrating mostly on reviewing obscured and underrated albums. For example I adore GENESIS, they are my fave band, but I have only 3 reviews on them

I had a feeling my GUP review would get some negative feedback.

I honestly (ignore the band name) do not get any satisfaction out of any of the songs on that album.
back from the dead, i will begin posting reviews again and musing through the forums

I disagree - he's given fair reason for why he thinks it's only worth 1 star and so he is entitled to give his opinion even if you don't agree with it.

You don't have to write a review with a rating, but a review puts more weight on your rating when figuring out the average score for an album

I gave it 3 stars but would rather it had been 2 1/2...
