Turion's behavior is very strange, indeed... I don't mind with his ratings but he seems not to respect bands, fans and don't even give a clue if he is concerned with the songs. He writes fairly in English and can make new and more comprehensive reviews, repeating the ratings if he wishes!

RUSH — 2112
Review by progismylife (Self-Proclaimd Rush Fanatic)

1%20stars ¡Muy horrible!

He-he-he... Big%20smile

Awful Russian, by the way... Really horrible. Even muy horrible, he-he...

Can't judge the level of German, unfortunately... Unhappy

Happy 1.IV !!!

Cert, you realize if you posted this about say, Led Zeppelin, your reviews would be edited and deleted immediately without warning because it is a high profile band. However, because it is prog metal (and lets face it, no one here respects prog metal except the people who like it) any slanderous comment is fair game.

Sad sad, how older people can be so much more childish than many of the younger members on this site.

EDIT:  Personally, this incident really questions the professionalism I thought that PA has/had.

Read what I said to the other poster;

There are NO insults in my reviews, and no slanderous comment - can you identify the "insults" or "slander"?

No - you INFER it.

Maybe my opinions are harsh occasionally - but I review specific albums - I have no vendetta against any portion of the community; I despise prejudice with a passion.

I am aware of a certain prejudice against me, because of strong views I have - but see that as good for debate.

Last one:

I can't believe you're even questioning my reviews and demanding that I don't review Prog Metal.

As for my ratings and opinions, I explain them very clearly and back up everything I say using FACT that is PROVABLE - not slander or lies of any kind.

Compare this to someone who clearly thinks that production and his own admitted lack of understanding makes great music less of a masterpiece than it is;

"However, their are parts of this album which I'll never understand" - too true, Joey!!!

If you don't understand it, why not study it a bit more until you do?

It'll freak you out one day, just how fantastic it is.

DISCUSSION ABOUT MY REVIEWS CLOSED, UNLESS THERE REALLY IS A PROBLEM WITH THEM, OR YOU WANT TO PICK ME UP ON FACTUAL OR TECHNICAL INACCURACIES.

Certified you really should be in politics. Please stop twisting my words and answer direct questions.

Never understand as in "why other people like it". Of course, accding to guidelines I can't say that, so I dont mind if i look like an idiot when I write that, but w/e makes you happy Cert. Genesis is the most basic of prog bands to understand, whereas a band like Paatos or Kayo Dot is far more complex.

Your continual sarcastic remarks DO indicate a lack of respect, whether you think so or not. You also assume that I somehow am uncultured and haven't "Got" things. I'm not inferring anything. I'm reading and responding.

"As for my ratings and opinions, I explain them very clearly and back up everything I say using FACT that is PROVABLE - not slander or lies of any kind."

1. MikeEnReg. just made a THREAD about how you had false facts in your reviews.

2. You still have not commented on why you made a sarcastic review of Death's first album and then flamed their more progressive one. A move that both me and Ansen thought was extremely rude and childish.

3. You continue to treat me as an inferior in the discussion with comments about Santa, Great Britain humor, etc. I'm not 12, talk to me like an adult.

4. It'd be great if you actually responded to something rather than playing the loop de loop game.

That said, you still act like you're about 14 years old. Of course I realize it's impossible to have civil discussions around here without low blows, manipulating facts, not answering direct questions, and overall just being a plain asshat.

Regardless, have a nice day.

- Joey

EDIT: Also, please point out direct parts in those reviews which you think do not follow guidelines. I never called Genesis NOT PROG like you have done many times towards Opeth and other prog-metal bands. It's incorrect, as in NOT a FACT to call bands like Opeth not prog. You may disagree with them being on this site, you may not even like them, thats completely fine, but to say they aren't prog is ridiculous. I supposed you'd rid the site of all the Neo, Avant, and Fusion as well Cert? Or is that incorrect?

Let's take the personalities out of the discussion, and keep it dispassionate. There is a constructive debate lurking below the rhetoric.

PROG REVIEWER

1%20stars An unfortunate addition of someone's prog music collection.

That should be the tag for this album. An unfortunate blunder in the history of progressive music. It's not so much that the whole album is awful. Some parts are fairly interesting, that is until you realize there is no point to it. If you will notice, the band has lost all concept of transition in their work. Parts come and go for no apparent reason other than to have change. Sounds are just sploched randomly together and the album Tales is what comes out.

This album reminds me of painters who will just throw colors on a page and see what happens. That's about the same analogy for the music found here. The most noticeable thing to me is the horrid guitar tone that is used. The fact that it is used often makes it worse. It's one of the most annoying tone's I've encountered in the history of music. It's thin and makes you cringe. The bass is also horribly done with heavy vibrations.

Then you have the random playing and note selection. It's not even so much that it isn't in unison. I can appreciate bands where the members more or less "do their own thing". Kong is a good example of this. Here, however, none of this works, everything sounds out of place.

A heavy amount of "doodling" is involved on this album. Howe plays with no real purpose, it's not even that its w**kery, like Dream Theater mostly is, it's that it sounds like some 14 year old kid in his garage toying around with different notes. I can record myself playing random notes just fine, anyone want to buy my work? Anyone think it will be a masterpiece of progressive music? Probably not. However, my name is not nearly as recognizeable as Yes is, so I guess I lose in that match. One can certainly sympathize with Wakeman for leaving after this.

The best thing about this album is you only have to hit "skip" 4 times and the atrocity is over.

Not even recommended for completionists. Unless you want to explain to all your friends why you have this horrid album in your collection.

So should 96% of reviewers, who rated it with more than 1 star feel ashamed?
A bit offensive isn't it?
What if anyone would wrote something like that about Still Life by Opeth(what I actually like)? How would you like it?

@ Norbert

I'm calling it poor music, I'm not calling it Not Prog, which is essentially what Certified is deeming as fact in his reviews. Notice the difference.

I see poor reviews for Opeth and other bands I enjoy quite a bit, but I never complain about them. I complained about Cert's review because he has an obvious distaste for everything Prog Metal. He doesn't consider it progressive and has more or less a "vendetta" to get them removed from the site.

You'll also notice that I have CTTE and Fragile at 4 stars, because I consider them excellent albums. Whereas Cert has never had a positive review for a PM album, as the Death review does not qualify becuase it is a sarcastic one.

Go ahead and flame Still Life all you want. You're allowed to give 1 star reviews to albums. However, if you were to review all of Band X's catalog, call all of it Not prog (as in make completely false facts), one would wonder if the reviews were designed to help or to have a soapbox.

Fine answer, but I won't give one star to any Opeth album because I rather enjoy them, as I've mentioned above.

Since the debate continues - and is viewed by the Admins as being valid, I'll try to answer all your points as fairly as the context determines.

"Poor music" is utterly subjective - and you provide little reasoning to back up your claim.

There is actually no such thing as poor music.

"Not Prog" is less subjective - particularly as I use a lot of rationale to explain why I consider it as such.

Music can be divided into "Prog" and "Not Prog" - there are such things.

That is the difference.

I have said this many, many times, and wil say it again and again... maybe.

I have no vendetta against prog metal, and I always review albums for what they are - I don't know if I have a distaste for everything Prog Metal, as I have not heard everything in that genre. I have some recommendations that I am currently listening to and absorbing, and will review when I feel I have studied and understood them.

Your suggestion of a "vendetta" is completely without basis and I ask you to withdraw it.

No, the Death review is not sarcastic.

I always review albums for what they are.

Personally, I would not rate either CTTE or Fragile at 4 stars Big%20smile

Have you seen my review for Fantomas "Suspended Animation"?

It depends on the context entirely - if the reviewer just says "Not Prog" and provides no reasoning, then that could be construed as abuse of the system.

However, you'll find that I always provide reasoning even if you don't happen to agree with it.

[/quote]

Genesis is not the most basic of Prog bands to understand - that is simply untrue and shows you don't understand their music - as you yourself have stated.

I don't know the music of those other bands - I'd be intrigued to discover if they really are more complex (ie, complex formal, harmonic, melodic, timbral and rhythmic structures), or whether you simply mean they have more complicated riffs and play in outlandish time signatures.

Really?

Where?

I'd like to respond to this - it seems VERY unfair to start a thread on a forum member and not invite them to join in the discussion - especially if it's as serious as this - accusing me of falsehoods, which, to the very best of my knowledge, I never make.

I research my facts very carefully.

My review of SBG is not sarcastic, and my other Death album review is perfectly valid - not a flame, but a reflection of my opinion.

Please respect that.
