Just to correct you slightly - it will be a DVD-V rather than a DVD-A.

Got this back from Steve's myspace:

Hello there Tony

What's best for the band on this ocassion is actually for you to buy the album from a regular retailer. It won't be sold through Burning Shed or Headphone Dust (but look out for a special limited edition deluxe version!)

Paul

Well, hopefully Amazon will be able to ship it quicker than they have with Blackfield II.  I'm still awaiting delivery of that cd.

At  last ordering info from the band:

Fear of a Blank Planet pre-ordering

03-23-2007

Please note that Fear of a Blank Planet will *not* be available to order from the band directly, at least not until after the release date. What we need you to do this time is buy the album from regular retail outlets, and from within your own country (so if you're in Europe please order it from your local store, rather than from the US for example).

The album is being released in 2 different forms; the first is a regular crystal case edition with a 12 page booklet. The second is a deluxe 2 disc set, which contains the stereo CD, and a full 5.1 surround sound mix of the album on DVDV (which also includes 24 bit high resolution stereo). Both discs are housed inside miniature card LP sleeves, and come in a box with a 40 page book of Lasse Hoile images. Both Roadrunner in Europe, and Atlantic in the USA have pressed a limited number of these special editions. They differ slightly in that the US edition has 2 separate single card sleeves for the discs, while the Roadrunner edition has both discs housed in a single gatefold card sleeve.

It's possible for US customers to pre-order both editions of the album from Newbury Comics with a signed booklet.

The European edition is released on 16th April, the US edition on 24th April.

New Interview Posted On MTV Site:

Porcupine Tree's Wilson Talks Complex New LP, Project With Opeth's Akerfeldt

Frontman ponders the impact of information technology on today's generation.

Ours is an age in which instant gratification is never more than a few mouse clicks away, and that doesn't sit well with Porcupine Tree mastermind Steven Wilson. He thinks all this technology business is going to end up biting society in its proverbial butt. And it's this fear that helped shape the concept of the forthcoming Fear of a Blank Planet, due in stores April 24.

By Chris Harris

Click on the link above for the full interview.

Thanks to MTV for the interview and to PT Forum for the heads up.

Shocked

This album might be the best post-space PT record. The music in between the interview bits is just phenomenal. I think I heard a musical reference recalling a theme from the song "Trains" from In Absentia. Perhaps there will be a solid thematic connection between the person playing with the train set and the blank children on Fear of a Blank Planet?

Apparently only a 1000 copies of the deluxe edition are available for order in Europe.Ouch The place I usually order from (CD services) have only been assigned 10 copies and I wasn't quick enough on the order button.Cry

www.fearofablankplanet.com has downloads now! Banners, icons, etc. Unfortunately the banners don't work when you add them to you blog or w/e... They should really fix that.

I thought it was a good concept until I heard he got most of his ideas for it from a book he read... :/

But I didn't like the music so I wasn't going to get it anyway. :P

What's wrong with getting ideas from a book? Do you really think all your favorite concept albums were thought up out of nothing?

No, but there's a difference between being inspired by something and taking your ideas from something. The interview made it sound much more like the latter.

It's not exactly the most original idea ever, you must admit. Kids staying inside and playing Xbox while medicated? I've not really heard it in musical concept format, though. It sounds like the book eventually has the kids disappear to get away from all of that crap, and SW said little about FOABP regarding the ending. So drawing conclusions now would be premature.
